The Duchess of Cambridge is still suffering from the effects of Hyperemesis Gravidarum so the Duke will represent the Queen on the official visit instead

It was set to be her first official solo visit overseas.

But pregnant Kate Middleton has had to pull out of her trip to Malta this weekend for medical reasons, and Prince William will go in her place, Clarence House has confirmed.

The Duchess of Cambridge is still suffering from the effects of Hyperemesis Gravidarum (intense morning sickness) and has cancelled her visit, under doctor’s orders.

The 32-year-old was supposed to be flying out to the country this weekend (20 and 21 September) on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen to mark the 50th anniversary of Malta’s independence.

In a statement, Clarence House said Prince William, also 32, will be replacing her and was ‘honoured’ to be representing the Queen.

The itinerary for the trip has not been changed, so the Duke of Cambridge will be staying at San Anton Palace, the official residence of Malta's president, Marie Louise Coleiro Preca.

He will have an official meeting with the president on Saturday before visiting Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and his wife.

Later that day, William will get the chance to watch military-themed presentations before being whisked to the National Library where he will be shown a number of important historical documents.

On Sunday, he will then attend Independence Day services at St. John's Cathedral and meet with youth workers in the country.

William – who’s second in line to the throne behind his father, Prince Charles – will view Maltese art at the Church of St Lawrence and then take a boat tour via the Grand Harbor.

The royal will cap off his whirlwind trip with an appearance at the British High Commissioner's Garden Party at their official residence.

The news of Kate having to pull out of her trip to Malta comes after she and William announced they were expecting their second child.

Prince George is set to become a big brother as they announced they’re expecting Royal Baby number two in spring, as they announced on September 8th.

Speculation has been rife, well ever since Prince George was born in July 2013, that Kate and William were keen to add to their young family.

Now the odds are on for whether the pair are expecting a little girl or a boy to become a future Prince or Princess.
