London Fashion Week AW14: Things we’ve learnt at LFW

LFW notebook: The main things we’ve learnt from watching the models and celebs strut their stuff on the Autumn / Winter 2014 runway

London Fashion Week AW14 digested into bite-size chunks for your easy scrolling pleasure. Here's basically all you need to know...

TUESDAY FEB, 18

Fashion meets Formula 1 is now a thing.

MONDAY, FEB 17

Reality stars can end up being London Fashion Week models.

Who says the runway can't be interactive? Cara Delevingne shares live catwalk video on Instagram.

Burberry Prorsum won Fashion Week with a typically awesome show.

Cara was there. Suki was there. Even Bradley 'I'm a total babe' Cooper was there. And of course Yahoo was there too.

Head designer Christopher Bailey delivered yet another impeccable show with a distinctly tribal feel - think floaty dresses coupled with thick wool ponchos.

Oh yeah, ponchos are back. But before you start going through your mum's old wardrobe so far it's only thickly woven, monogram Burberry blankets as seen on Ms Delevingne.

SUNDAY, FEB 16

Cara Delevinge has her own Mulberry collection. The 21-year-old model has joined the likes of Jane Birkin, Alexa Chung and Grace Kelly with a signature handbag.

The Mulberry Cara Delevingne bag comes in three sizes and is a 3-in-1 style to reflect Cara's 'personailty, her charisma and her charm'.

Not just a muse, the Brit model of the moment helped design the sure to become iconic bag, which can be worn on the shoulder, as a backpack or hand held.

Cara unveiled her handiwork today at Claridges in an ethereal presentation that saw her frolick through the woods with her new accessories.

Each detail has been inspired by Cara herself, from the lion rivets to the 'Made in England' stamp on the bottom of each bag - both taken from Cara's tattoos.

The bag comes in khaki, green, black and taupe and there is already a waiting list for when it hits the shelves.

We've got our eye on the small taupe number with mini gold lions - we sense a new 'It' bag has been born...

Star Wars is on trend. No, seriously. Darth Vader made an appearance on the Preen catwalk while Stormtoopers hung out backstage. Standard fashion week fun.

SATURDAY, FEB 15

Hair and make-up is the perfect time for the models to catch up on much-needed sleep (see below... no-one has any!)

Two hairdryers ARE necessary backstage - if only we had the same treatment at home *sob*

Things can go wrong - and probably will

Umbrellas up indoors aren't bad luck when it comes to fashion.

Dogs are definitely the new fashion accessory

Fashion Week has gone hi-tech

The wind is making everyone look like this.

Although we really wish we looked like this.

FRIDAY, FEB 14

Leopard print is still in. As is clearly Ange's leg.

Literally anything goes. Anything.

It’s all about multi-tasking

Backstage at Mark Fast AW14, models were having their nails painted, eating their dinner AND having their hair done at the same time.

With 15 models to prep to perfection in limited time, it’s no wonder hair stylists, make-up artists and nail technicians cut corners!

No-one has ANY sleep

Nick Irwin, Global Creative Director for TIGI, flew in from New York two hours before his call time backstage at LFW.

Meanwhile, models are going from show to show with no time to spare – it’s literally every waking moment counts at London Fashion Week.

Camo is key

Made in Chelsea star Rosie Fortescue was snapped backstage at DAKS wearing a Christopher Kane camouflage skirt, proving that this autumn, camo is THE trend to be seen in.

Monochrome is timeless

It was the breakout trend of 2013 with Jennifer Lawrence’s black and white Dior gown at Cannes one of our favourite looks of the year.

But it seems the monochrome trend is here to stay with models at J. JS Lee sporting tailored pieces in the look. Add a pop of colour with a bright lip or neon accessories.

‘No make-up’ make-up is harder than it looks

Backstage at Mark Fast, Bare Minerals make-up artist Sarah Jane-Froom took a good twenty minutes making over the models to make it look like they’d just taken a ‘frosty walk in a winter’s forest’, as she described.

The key to the look? Hydrated skin, using the brand’s moisturizer on the model’s face, neck and décolletage – followed by highlighter and powder foundation applied with a big fluffy brush.
