Katie Melua, 30, took a trip to the docs after a repetitive scratching noise in one of her ears refused to quieten down after about a week.

The Georgian-born musician was alarmed to discover than, instead of an early tinnitus onset, the scratching noise was in fact caused by a small spider.

The spider, which was captured on film during her examination, had burrowed into her ear's canal and was believed to have been living in there for around a week.

Katie, who seems to have taken the whole event in her stride, has come to her own conclusions about how this came about.

In an incredibly calm-sounding message on her Instagram account, she said:

"Basically I used these old in-ear monitors to block out sound on a flight, little spider must have been in them and crawled inside my ear and stayed there for the week. It was no hassle at all, apart from the occasional shuffling noises..."

The spider was evicted from its cosy home in the singer's ear by way of a little "micro hoover", and placed in a little plastic container.

A spokesperson for Katie has told the press that the spider was later released into the singer's garden.

Aww, how sweet!

We can't say we'd want to be living that close to the creature that had inhabited one of our bodies for a week.
