Kate Middleton Works The Nautical Trend As She Sails Ahead Of Prince William

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were spotted taking part in a sailing race in Auckland, New Zealand on the fifth day of their royal tour

It’s the first time she’s been able to let her hair down since arriving in New Zealand on the couple’s royal tour.

And Kate Middleton, 32, certainly looked like she was enjoying herself as she thrashed husband Prince William, 31, in a sailing race in Auckland Harbour.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge left son Prince George with the couple's nanny for the day as they took the wheels of two yachts and raced around buoys in the open water.

But it was Kate that took charge, triumphantly beating Wills in two races in an Emirates Team New Zealand America’s Cup yacht – giving him a victory salute as she sailed back past him.

The last time the couple took to the water during a dragon boat race in 2011, William beat his wife so it looks like Kate was eager to win this time around.

The Duchess certainly got into the swing of things as she arrived in Auckland wearing the nautical trend for her day of sailing.

She donned a Me+ Em Breton stripe top that retails for £48 but the Kate Middleton effect has struck already as it’s since sold out online.

Catherine – who gave birth to the couple’s first child George in July last year – styled the striped tee with a pair of skinny jeans and boat shoes.

Later in the day, she was seen sporting a pair of classic black Ray Ban wayfarer shades as she sat back and relaxed on a boat with her husband.

She also sported a gold-buttoned military blazer from high-street store Zara, further channeling the nautical trend to perfection.
