Baby Advice From Baby Spice: Emma Bunton Gives Pregnancy Tips

Our mother-to-be writer catches up with Spice Girl Emma Bunton on all things babies.

When I was invited to interview Emma Bunton, I was just over eight months pregnant. In other words, I was ready to pop.

With Emma being a former Celebrity Mum of the Year and now a brand ambassador for nappy chiefs Pampers, it would have surely been a missed opportunity to ignore the elephant in the room. Or more fittingly, womb.

In three weeks I was giving birth. This baby was in so he would need to come out. I needed all the Spice Girl moral support I could get.

So I used my time with Emma to talk Mum to (almost) Mum. Or rather, bump to Mum.

After all, Emma's done it twice over. Mum to two sons with her husband Jade Jones - Beau, born in 2007, and Tate, born in 2011.

Starting things off on a positive note, Emma reckoned that she absolutely loved carting her babies round under her t-shirt for nine months.

“I really loved being pregnant - mainly because you get so looked after! You can eat for two which is nice! I did enjoy it. I loved bonding with my bump and it was such a special time,” she told me.

I personally bonded with my bump mainly in KFC.

Luckily for Emma, both her pregnancies were smooth sailing and didn't take any unexpected turns.

“Pregnancy was exactly as I expected. My husband Jade and my mum were such amazing support though and if you have that it makes things very easily,” she said.

“However, I definitely didn’t feel like I was glowing. I had loads of spots and, especially with my second, I was running around after another baby so had no time to lay in front of the TV. I also was very emotional. I think I cried through both my pregnancies.”

I had cried on the way to the interview because I got my sandal stuck in a grate.

And like me, Emma definitely appreciated one, or rather two, of the perks of pregnancy.

“I never realised how much your boobs grow! I’d never known they could get that big. Unfortunately they do go back though,” she said.

Sat next to Emma in a bra three sizes bigger than eight months ago, I could certainly vouch for this.

And with that Emma saw me off into the unknown with the reassurance that over everything (baby books included), instinct would kick in and end up taking over so there was nothing to worry about.

“Everyone is so different it’s so hard to give any advice. I think you will just have an instinct on how to go and that is what you will do. Every pregnancy is different,” she wisely told me.

Three weeks later I gave birth to a baby boy called Freddy weighing 7lbs (pictured above). Just like Emma said, everything I thought I knew went out the window and instinct really did kick in.

Instinct and caffeine. Lots of caffeine.
