11 reasons why we literally cannot wait for New York Fashion Week

Kate Middleton’s dress designer, Victoria Beckham’s latest collection and the great Anna Wintour smile mystery are just some of the reasons we’re excited about NYFW SS14

It’s all happening across the pond today as New York kicks off the first of the Big Four fashion weeks, with designers showcasing their Spring/Summer 2014 collections.

With London, Milan and Paris all set to follow in the following weeks, we reveal why exactly we’re so excited about NYFW SS14!

1 Victoria Beckham

Three years ago the former Spice Girl debuted her first fashion collection at New York Fashion Week – surprisingly to critical acclaim.

Fast forward to 2013 and it’s the hottest ticket on the NYFW calendar with only a select number of press and buyers allowed to attend.

How will she top last year?

2 All Saints

The Brit label – renowned for their leather biker jackets and boyfriend jeans more than catwalk couture – will be making their runway debut this season.

The brand think New Yorkers will ‘appreciate the East London aesthetic’ of All Saints which is bringing something  ‘unexpected and innovative’ to the schedule. Oh really?

3 Marc Jacobs

Expect MJ – a native New Yorker - to bring the crazy to the SS14 show schedule.

Aside from creating a collection for Louis Vuitton at Paris Fashion Week later this month, he’s got TWO shows at NYFW too.

Not afraid to take a fashion risk, his main line Marc Jacobs is generally zanier than his more preppy line, Marc by Marc Jacobs. Expect a celeb-filled FROW.

4 FROW

With New York Fashion Week one of the Big Four, LA just doesn’t cut it any more, darling.

The cream of the tinseltown crop jet across the country to sit front row at some of the biggest shows on the NYFW schedule.

Katherine Heigl, Jessica Chastain and Oscar-heavyweight Hilary Swank have all graced New York with their presence in the past – who will make an appearance this time?

5 A-list models

Aside from the celeb-filled FROW, the catwalk has its own selection of world-leading models.

Brit star Cara Delevingne and US model Karlie Kloss are just some of the faces you may recognize strutting their stuff down the NYFW runways.

6 Plus size fashion

For the first time in New York Fashion Week history, a plus-size label is set to present its new season collection.

If you’re sick of seeing stick-thin models on the runway, New York based label Cabiria might be just the breath of fresh air you need.

7 Nina Garcia's geek chic

The Marie Claire editor and Project Runway judge is set to wear high-tech Google Glass specs during NYFW.

The fashionista is expected to wear them during key industry events and relay it onto the Marie Claire website. Exciting!

8 Street style

New Yorkers have their own signature, polished style and some of the snaps taken outside are just as inspirational as what’s on the runway.

Expect plenty of glamorous looks for you to try out yourself – or just to gaze at adoringly.

9 Anna Wintour

The US Vogue editor is always the first on the FROW and last to leave – and she’s usually at most of the shows as well. She’s OBSESSED WITH FASHION.

But what we want to know is does she ever smile? We’re hoping NYFW SS14 might be the first for her to break the mould and crack a smile.

10 Jenny Packham

Catch a glimpse into Kate Middleton’s 2014 wardrobe by checking out Jenny Packham’s SS14 collection.

The Duchess of Cambridge has opted for the British designer plenty of times in the past, including this gorgeous teal gown. What will she wear next?

11 Harper Beckham… and potentially David

The pint-sized fashionista got the best seat in the house at Mummy’s SS13 collection – but she must have been asleep for her February show earlier this year.

With a wardrobe to match her mother’s, we can’t wait to see what she’ll wear on the FROW this year.

We’ve also got our fingers crossed for babydaddy David to make a front row appearance – half to give wife Victoria support and half to stare at his face.
