Beauty how-to: Jennifer Lawrence's make-up on the Cannes red carpet - EXCLUSIVE

Kay Montano revealed how she did The Hunger Games star’s make-up for the Jimmy P. (Psychotherapy of Plains Indian) premiere at the Cannes Film Festival

Jennifer Lawrence wowed on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival this weekend in a beautiful Dior frock and stunning make-up look.

The Hunger Games actress was one of our favourites from the night as she posed for photographed with tousled locks, golden tan and striking pink lips.

Red-carpet inspiration

We spoke exclusively to the 22-year-old star’s make-up artist to find out how created Jennifer’s red-carpet make-up look at Cannes.

“Jennifer really loves having [Brigitte] Bardot eyes,” said her MUA, Kay Montano.

“She prefers dark eyes and no lips but I just said ‘Shall we try a lip this time, it’ll be more fun!’” she said of her inspiration behind her make-up look.

Kay admitted that the Silver Linings Playbook star sometimes needs persuading to try new make-up looks – but she was willing to try a bright pink lip for the Cannes premiere.

“She knows that she’s wearing Dior and she’s playing a part,” Kay told us.

Once she’d seen that Jennifer was wearing a monochrome Dior gown and that hairstylist Mark Townsend was giving her a tousled hair look, she got started on her red-carpet beauty look.

1)    “I started with Diego Dalla Palma Lifting Effect Cream Foundation in Natural Beige - available at M&S Your Beauty - on the centre of her nose and worked outwards,” said Kay. She opted for a very light foundation, blending it in until there are no visible lines on the face.

2)    Next, Kay used Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer under Jennifer’s eyes and Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer around her nose to remove any redness.

3)    Jennifer’s T-zone was then powdered with Jurlique Rose Silk Finishing Powder – but not her cheeks, as Kay wanted to leave them looking dewy.

4)    Kay got Jennifer to smile and then applied Autograph Pure Colour Powder Blush in Pale Blush to the apples of her cheeks and outwards up her cheekbones with a fluffy blusher brush.

5)    Jennifer loves a Brigitte Bardot style eye with a flick of eyeliner – “it’s her thing!” so Kay got started on her stunning smokey eyes. She first lined them with a soft brown kohl pencil, smudging it with her fingers on the lower lashes.

“I tend to always do a tick on her using the Autograph Quick Drying Black Liner,” said Kay.  She also did a very fine line on the star’s bottom lashes.

6)    Kay applied CoverGirl Flamed Out Mascara all over Jennifer’s lashes and then glued Eylure Individual Lashes in Medium ‘on the edges of the eyelash to almost to three quarters of the way along’ using Duo adhesive.

The celeb make-up artist prefers to use individual lashes rather than strip lashes on Jennifer because ‘strip lashes just look a bit outdated to me. I find them a little bit trashy.’

7)    Then, Kay got started on the piece de resistance to her make-up look – her stunning pink pout using Diego Dalla Palma Chubby Lip & Cheek in Geranium Red.

“Because she was wearing that black and white dress, it just needed that pop of colour otherwise it looks too grown up,” she said.

Despite Jennifer’s pink lipstick looking amazing on the red carpet – Kay admitted it was a spontaneous decision once she’d seen her dress.

She’s worked with the Oscar-winning actress since 2012 and is hopeful she’ll get to work with her on the upcoming Hunger Games: Catching Fire UK promo trail.

After seeing Jen’s stunning make-up look at Cannes this weekend, we sure hope she does to!
