Will These Be The Top Children’s Toys This Christmas?

Start saving – Britain’s largest toy retailer has released its predictions for this year’s top Christmas toy

We may only have just passed the longest day of the year, but we’re already thinking about Christmas. At least, what we’ll be buying for Christmas.

And spoiler alert – it’s looking to be an expensive festive season.

A list of the toys expected to fly off the shelves in December have been revealed, suggesting what parents across the UK will be treating their tots to. And it’s looking like whatever you buy will be inspired by the big and small screen, with the list dominated by the likes of Frozen, Thunderbirds and Minions.

Some 90 per cent of children’s toy boxes in the UK contain toys and games influenced by their favourite TV shows and films, research by Argos revealed.

This Christmas’ predicted favourites include Lego City Deep Sea Exploration, Minions Tumbling Stuart, Nerf Modulus and Real FX race cars with artificial intelligence.

But while these may all seem incredibly futuristic, many of the 13 toys on the list bear a strong resemblance to those that us adults may’ve played as children.

With toys like Tracy Island, Lego and Barbie, 48 per cent of parents said they would be more likely to play and bond with their child, with 10 per cent wanting to play themselves.

“This year, the list is more star studded than ever, driven by highly anticipated movie releases and kid's favourite TV shows,” says Linzi Walker, chief toy buyer at Argos.

“Toys like the Tracy Island, Barbie and Lego are all stellar examples of how this year's list crosses the generations, bringing the whole family together on Christmas Day.

“With the growing buzz around the new Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens movie out later this year, we are expecting even more toys to launch in the next few months which will be in huge demand by kids and parents alike.”
