Wedding makeup essentials

When it comes to the big day no wedding outfit is complete without complementary makeup. To ensure you don’t take the attention away from the dress it’s best to keep makeup neutral. Strong colours are a definite no-no, instead opt for soft pinks and gold peach tones coupled with porcelain skin (fake-tan unless you really can’t go without it, is best avoided on your wedding day).

To help you achieve that beautiful complexion on your big day, here are our makeup recommendations for a glowing look. Starting with the eyes, to achieve a soft beige sheen use Aveda Petal’s Essence single and trio eye colours. The soft earthy tones are supremely natural looking and work best when blended with Aveda’s tonal coloured pencil eye definers.

Follow with Bourjois intense eyeshadow in colour 8 on the top of eyelids and in the corners for a shimmery bronze touch, illuminating the eyes.

Define the eyes by applying a soft crayon eyeliner, such as Bobbi Brown’s Creamy Eye Pencil with softening tool. Liquid eyeliner is far too strong and a definite wedding make-up faux pas!

Finally apply a light coat of mascara to create natural looking lashes. Be sure to use a waterproof one as there’s bound to be some tears! Tried and tested, we like Chanel Inimitable Waterproof mascara and Shu Uemura Length and Waterproof mascara.  To achieve that flawless porcelain complexion we recommend using MAC Pro Long Wear SPF10 Foundation.

It lasts up to 15 hours, even in hot and humid conditions and with SPF protection it’s ideal for a summer wedding. As a medium coverage, it controls, oils and shines, while its lightweight and creamy formula ensures easy application for a smooth even finish.

Available in a range of nude and darker shades you’re bound to find a colour to suit your skin tone. Alternatively if you have dry and sensitive skin, you may prefer using a tinted moisturiser.

Clinique Moisture Surge Tint Moisturizer SPF15 with oil-free hydrating formula, covers imperfections with a hint of colour whilst giving skin an instant moisture boost with SPF protection. Refreshingly lightweight, the result is a translucent no make-up look and feel.

Finally, give your complexion a natural glow by dusting on SISLEY’s luxurious Duo Peach Gold pressed powder all over face and neck. Then highlight cheeks with either a bronzer – we like NARS Bronzer Trio Cheek Palette or for an English rose complexion, apply as favoured by the Duchess of Cambridge, myface cosmetics r&b rouge blusher in Lady Monaco.

Lastly, to achieve those nude nourished sheer lips apply moisturising lipsticks such as M&S Perfection Perfect Moisture lipstick in Nude or indulge in luxury by applying YSL’s No10 Beige Tribute lipstick for a soft glossy sheen finish.
