5 Weird Weight Loss Treatments That Barely Involve Dieting Or Exercise

Cheating your way to a healthy BMI you say? Okay, let's try it...

Acupuncture

You might have heard of acupuncture – the treatment where tiny needles are put into different points on the body to try and help just about any ailment you can name.

So, when I was looking into what could help with weight loss apart from diet and exercise, this came up as a suggestion.

And so to the Acumedic’s clinic in Camden, North London, I went, intrigued to see if such a simple treatment would help me lose weight.

After a thorough consultation about my diet, exercise, sleep patterns and other such factors, I had a half hour treatment, where the needles were put in certain points and I was left for half an hour for them to work their magic.

And it was magic.

I felt so amazing after three treatments, approximately a week apart. I didn’t lose weight, but then I confess I perhaps wasn’t the most studious at taking the weight loss supplement and teas I was given alongside the treatment.

If that’s going to be an issue for you, then this might not be the right treatment to consider. However, I felt so relaxed and ‘zen’ (cheesy, but it’s hard to think of a better word) afterwards, that I wanted to eat a healthy dinner (no harm there) and keep looking after myself.

So this was a winner in a curve ball way. No immediate dress size loss, but the positivity to stand and walk taller, as well as be more chilled about being happy about the size I am too.

Conclusion: You’ll need to commit to taking supplements and weight loss tea to see any weight loss, and I was terrible at that. However, I will be going back for acupuncture for my general wellbeing in 2015.

Hypoxi

Now then, donning a suit with special suction pads inside it that are meant to manipulate the cells and help them disappear (well, that’s not quite the totally scientific way of describing it, but it’s how it seemed to me) is something more akin to a 1970s James Bond film, I thought.

There were three machines you can use, and I was offered the most ‘energetic.' This invloved wearing the special Hypoxi suit while walking briskly for half an hour on a treadmill.

Three ‘hoses’ in the front of the suit were then attached to a special machine which did the ‘sucking.'

Conclusion: After six sessions I was the proud wearer of a new playsuit for a night out, and really felt like my tummy had shrunk a bit. Of course, there’s the treadmill action to include, too, but I do think Hypoxi is a good way to combine exercise and trying to get your fat wobble under control.
A full course of Hypoxi Therapy (12 sessions) costs £496.00.

'Cool Tech' Treatment
And so to my nemesis – back fat.

Oh yes, we all have something we hate in particular and tummy aside, for me it’s that wobble that appears when you put on a well-fitting bra that holds you in. So I wanted to see if there was something that could be done about this.

Turns out the Cool Tech treatment is best when applied to the stomach (it’s hard to get suction on the ‘back flab’ when you’re lying on your front and it’s suddenly flatter.)
Suction-style pads like the Lovelite ones were applied to the skin, and gradually sucked the fat cells to them, freezing them solid. Again, they’re supposed to disappear through your lymph drainage system over time.

Conclusion: I can’t lie, when the treatment was over and the fat was frozen into ‘lumps’ it was painful. I would stick to having this treatment on your stomach, and make sure you take an ibuprofen before hand!

Lipoglaze

Freeze my fat cells and they disappear through my body’s normal drainage system? Is there a way to do the whole body?!

This treatment is super popular as it’s seen as a simple quick fix to flab, so I was more than excited to try it! But as we all know, years of building up a ‘wine tummy’ can’t be zapped away in an hour. Still, we can try…

Lipoglaze, by Lovelite takes the cells in a certain part of the body (this time my stomach) below zero, then the fat cells given the cold shoulder for nearly an hour. Afterwards, my tummy was really red but that soon died down.

Walking straight out and getting on with my day (they recommend taking it easy but I didn’t feel too much in pain to not pop to the shops… where I then started looking in anticipation at some tiny party dresses!

Conclusion: So has my tummy shrunk since the treatment?

Well, sadly not as much as I’d hoped but I think that’s partly due to the fact that I perhaps didn’t stick to the dieting part of the process.

I think people expect this to be an amazing, sudden ‘fat disappearing magic trick’ and it’s sadly not (hey, if it was, wouldn’t we all be just queuing up?). It is popular, and you need to think about water intake, diet and exercise too. But it’s a good kick start. Because why pay hundreds to get your tummy fat zapped then go and eat a burger?

So if you have some wobble and want to give yourself a really good bit of motivation, this would work for you. Lipoglaze treatments start from £600.

Body Key
Body key works by using your DNA to help you create a weight loss plan to suit you exclusively.

DNA weight loss?! I had to try this.

The kit isn’t cheap – nearly £400 – but this is a programme that once you’ve paid for the initial ‘diagnosis,' is for life. That’s not a bad deal long-term, I thought.

Body key gets you to swab inside your mouth to retrieve DNA, which is then sent off and analysed. You can then log on to their website and get personalised diet advice. You’ll be told what foods would work best for you – for example, you might be needing to eat more ‘good fat’ than you already do, rather than so much fruit (sugary).

Conclusion: This is the closest to eating a healthy food plan, but, a wacky twist. While you’d need some pennies to invest, it could be for you, if you’ve tried diet plans before and found you need support and guidance to stay on the straight and narrow.

Did I lose weight? Not yet. However, I’m tailoring my diet to work with this plan so there is hope…
The Body Key DNA starter kit starts at £368.05.

As for me, i think it’s back to getting more exercise and finally saying ‘no more left over Christmas chocolates’!
