11 reasons why the Victoria’s Secret fashion show is the most ridiculous on earth

As the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is taped in New York, we round up 11 reasons why people are talking about it

It’s one of the most talked about fashion shows of the year with supermodels including Gisele Bundchen, Miranda Kerr and Naomi Campbell walking the runway in previous shows.

But if you're wondering why you're going to be bombarded with images of half-naked supermodels in the middle of November, we're here to help.

What exactly is it about the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and why does it garner so much controversy?

1 It’s not actually a fashion show

Despite its name suggesting it’s a fashion show, it’s really just an excuse for Victoria’s Secret to promote its new-season underwear.

It’s not exactly pushing the boundaries on the fashion front – but that doesn’t mean people won’t be talking about it tomorrow.

2 Victoria’s Secrets Angels

Not content with having just a few of the world’s top supermodels strutting their stuff in their undies, Victoria’s Secret typically hire between 20-40 models to walk the runway.

Among these A-List models are the Victoria’s Secret Angels, who are seen as the face of the brand including Alessandra Ambrosio and Adriana Lima.

3 Diamond-encrusted bra

Every year, one of the brand’s Angels is responsible for wearing the million-dollar Fantasy Bra.

This year, Candice Swanapoel is doing the honours as she is expected to walk down the runway in the $10,000,000 Royal Fantasy Bra. It’s a tough life.

4 Musical acts

Aside from the underwear on display, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is a night of entertainment and this year is set to be no different.

Taylor Swift and Fall Out Boy are down to perform at this year’s show – with bands including the Spice Girls performing in previous years.

5 British invasion

They’ve already jetted around the world for fashion week season but the UK’s top models are in high demand as they’re expected to make an appearance too.

Jourdan Dunn and Cara Delevingne are just two of the Brit models flown over to New York to walk the runway – they must be in demand.

6 Glitter tent

This year, a tent that transforms the models from regular women to ‘bronzed, pearlescent goddesses’ is expected to be a talking point of the show, reports Grazia Daily.

Wonder if we can hire it for our Christmas party?

7 Crazy costumes

If you’re expecting traditional M&S-style undies then think again because the Victoria’s Secret fashion show is aimed to get people talking.

To give you an idea, last year one of the models walked the runway in a LEPRECHAUN outfit. How can they top that?

8 Shameless flirting

Keep your eyes filled for backstage goss as Justin Bieber was spotted flirting with Barbara Palvin while still with Selena Gomez at last year’s show.

With that many half-naked ladies in one room, we’re not surprised the men stop and stare.

9 Amazing bodies

All eyes are on their bodies in what is the biggest display of models in underwear anywhere on earth.

It’s no surprise the stars including Lindsay Ellingson start planning their workouts MONTHS in preparation.

10 Giant wings

It goes without saying that angels need wings, right? Except the models are expected to walk the runway with a pair of wings weighing up to 30 lbs.

Now we know why they up the workout ante.

11 Controversy

The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is not without controversy and last year model Karlie Kloss was slammed for wearing a Native American outfit (which she, and the brand, later apologised for).

The show has also been criticised for being ‘pornographic’, ‘outright commercial’ and an ‘infomercial.’
