Treat Of The Week: A Night @ The Exhibitionist Hotel, London

With so many London hotel options, it's nice to stumble across something a little different.

Welcome to The Exhibitionist, a boutique hotel that's merely a stone's throw away from the beautiful gates of the Natural History Museum in Kensington.

A couple of the Lifestyle team were lucky enough to have been invited to experience a night's stay, ahead of the official opening, to see what London's newest hotel-come-art concept is really about.

And here's what we discovered...

The Vibe

At it's bare bones, the hotel is your average West London town house conversion. All pillars and columns, flags flying over the front stoop and porters on hand to welcome you into the reception.

So far so Made in Chelsea.

The difference, though, is that the white cube interior has been given over to a number of different artists - currently LE GUN holds the first residency - who were given creative license to decorate, upholster and adorn as they saw fit.

And the results? An ecclectic, colourful mix of many different styles, features and objets d'art.

The back of the bar - Abstract - is covered with an array of dyed vodkas, there are patchwork teapots with flowers in them and many, many differently styled mirrors.

The Hero Piece:

The two penthouse suites are the most diverse in terms of decor. Our favourite was the one deemed more "masculine" by the hotel's managing director.

With graffiti-like writing across the bedhead and some fun slogans, it was early Vivienne Westwood in feel.

Our favourite piece in the room, though, was the chair with the studded seat cushion, which we were assured was entirely pleasurable to sit on.

Where It Fell Down:

The concept itself is fun and certainly makes a change from your average London stay, but there were a few elements we'd have rethought.

It is a place envisioned by two men, and you can certainly tell. Some element of female touch (or even logic) is missing.

The windows that exist in all of the main guest rooms, for example, which allow you to see through the wall between bedroom and bathroom, are a nice idea in theory - lying in bed with a book and glancing over at your partner while they take a bubble bath is a romantic enough notion - but aren't that practical for real life.

What if you just want to pee in peace or, God forbid, change a tampon without your partner having to witness the whole event?

And the fun, chic, modern and inventive artistry that runs throughout the lobby, the corridoors and the special suites seems to stop short of the main guest rooms, which are decked out mainly in slightly overbearing crushed velvet.

Final Tip:

If you're a West London playboy looking to extend your post-Boujis late-night fun, you'd do well to hire out the basement suite, which comes complete with a small swimming pool.

We were assured that there's a discreet side entrance too...
