The Great British Bake Off causes baking sales frenzy

As GBBO duo Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood return to our screens, Brits head back to the kitchen

The Great British Bake Off returns to our screens tonight – and it seems us Brits couldn’t be more excited about it.

The nation has gone GBBO crazy as sales of baking goods have soared in the run up to the fourth series.

We've been buying double the amount of mixing bowls in the past week and 25 per cent more rolling pins and kitchen scales also up over 25 per cent, according to auction site eBay.

This surge in baking sales comes as a new survey found that TV shows inspire us to get baking.

The poll of 2,000 Brits revealed that more than half of us (54 per cent) head into the kitchen after watching telly shows like Bake Off.

“Following the success of the last series it’s not surprising to see that Brits are once again becoming inspired in the kitchen,” said eBay spokesman, Steven Heywood.

It also found that many of us lie about when we’ve baked our own cake to impress colleagues.

The study revealed that 10 per cent of us buy a cake from a bakery and then claim it’s our own creation.
