The Art Of Baring All: Photoshoot Shows Pregnant Women And New Mothers Are Beautiful

Learning to love ourselves scars and all is hard to do, but these photos certainly help.

We can't all look like Demi Moore on the cover of Vanity Fair!

Though, that's not to say that many of us haven't tried...

This latest project, however, aims to prove that you don't need to be flawless like Demi in order to be beautiful, both during pregnancy and after.

The A Beautiful Body Project: The Bodies of Mothers is an undertaking that was started by Jade Beall, after a number of photos that she had posted online of herself post-partum went viral.

The photographer and mother of one struck a nerve among other women.

Hundreds of other mothers soon wrote to Jade in the hope that she would photograph them "warts and all" - so to speak - during and after their pregnancies.

It seems that the pressure to look like the Demi Moores and Jessica Simpsons of the world, during pregnancy, had given women unrealistic goals to live up to.

Jade decided that it was about time we readjusted our thinking, not just to accept the stretch-marks and altered physiques that come with childbearing, but to find them beautiful.

Speaking of her own self-image, Jade said: "I gained 50 pounds with my pregnancy and that added to my personal history of oppressive self-loathing in a culture that praises mostly photoshopped images of women in media."

"We are facing an epidemic of women who feel unworthy of being called beautiful,"she continued.

The project, which has seen Jade photograph a selection of women at various stages of motherhood, has been turned into a book, launching on May 10.

The book has been a collaborative effort, with volunteers helping Jade put it together and helping her to fund it via Kickstarter.

Jade soon hopes to tackle other areas of life which in which a bit of "self-love" wouldn't go amiss, such as among the ageing and people with cancer and eating disorders.

The book A Beautiful Body Project: The Bodies of Mothers is available for pre-order on Amazon.
