Susanna Reid lost a stone thanks to a hectic Strictly schedule

The 43-year-old mum of three was put through her paces on the reality show

Strictly star Susanna Reid has revealed she lost a stone as she danced her way to the final.

The 43-year-old reckons that thanks to the competition, and her partner Kevin Clifton, she hasn’t been this fit in nearly a decade.

Being a mum to three boys has always kept the presenter on her toes but since she began rehearsing for the show last September she’s lost a stone, which had an effect on her routines.

‘It’s extraordinary how it affects your body, because you are training for such intense, long periods each day,’ she remarked.

‘It means that for Kevin, at the beginning of the series we weren’t doing much lifting. Suddenly there appeared to be all these lifts and no one knew why. It was because I was a stone lighter.’

The BBC Breakfast presenter juggled an impossibly hectic schedule during the competition, which saw her travel daily from the BBC studios in Salford down to London to see her children – all while squeezing in daily dance rehearsals.

Talking about the intense training, Susanna said: ‘You are never going to be able to do that again, unless you become a professional dancer, but it is just amazing how fit it makes you.’

All that dancing and exercise clearly paid off, as she proudly displayed her svelte figure alongside fellow finalists Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Abbey Clancy and Natalie Gumede.

Pescetarian Susanna admitted: ‘I’m sure if I had thought about it, I could have adapted my diet too, but in the end I just ate what I could, when I could.’

Susanna can continue her fitness run as the Strictly Come Dancing Live tour kicks off tonight in Birmingham.

The tour will run until February 9 where you can see Susanna, Abbey and Natalie strut their stuff in some of the biggest arenas in the country.
