Songs for the morning shower

We’ve all done it... embarrassingly bellowed song lyrics out of key into our shampoo bottle during our morning shower with the comfort of no one listening, as far as we know anyway. The morning for some of us can be the worst time of day, having to drag yourself out of bed when your body is really protesting. For many of us the only thing that can truly rouse us is the cool water of a refreshing morning shower. As well as plummeting water on your body and singing out of tune, why not listen to a music playlist of songs for the shower to bring you back to life, lighten your mood and help you feel like you’ve got out of bed on the right side for once…

Morning Shower Song 1: Here Comes the Sun – The Beatles

Written by George Harrison, ‘Here Comes the Sun’ is one of Harrison’s best known contributions to The Beatles. The song was originally inspired by the long English winters which Harrison believed went on forever, the interpretation to take from this, is to look positively on the day ahead. The soothing acoustic guitar will ease you away from sleep gently for those mornings where you need to be treated a little more tenderly.

Morning Shower Song 2: Do Your Thing – Basement Jaxx

Electronic dance music duo, Felix Buxton and Simon Radcliffe, are what make the musical sensation Basement Jaxx. Many of us rarely talk sense in the mornings, 'do your thing' mimics this perfectly with its jibber jabber lyrics of complete nonsense. Amidst the jibberish is ‘all I need is the bumping beat to bump away my blues!’ words of wisdom telling us to use the music to get rid of any morning angst.

Morning Shower Song 3: Move On Up – Curtis Mayfield

This track will definitely rouse some energy out of you during your morning shower. Here Mayfield encourages his listeners to get the most out of life regardless of any obstacles that may appear. The combination of the two artist’s vocals create an enjoyable harmony which exudes positivity, making it perfect on the shower music playlist.

Morning Shower Song 6: Mr Brightside – The Killers

Perhaps not the happiest of songs, with the sarcastic lyrics of 'I'm Mr Brightside' when he clearly is not. However released in 2004, it has been named 'song of the decade' and is loved worldwide. This unbeatable classic is one of the best to sing away to, we all know the lyrics off by heart. A brilliant way to make it a 'good' morning and get away from that groggy sleep feeling.

Morning Shower Song 7: Lovely Day – Bill Withers

For those mornings when you need something a little more chilled out.. The first thing you’ll hear listening to this track will be the strong baseline, followed by the smooth vocals of American soul artist Bill Withers. When Withers sings, ‘I wake up in the morning love, and the sunlight hurts my eyes’ we all sympathise with this familiar morning feeling, but the lyrics take a turn of positivity, ‘and I know it’s gonna be, a lovely day!’ reminding us the worst bits over and what follows will be a lovely day.

For a taste of the 60’s try this. The happy-go-lucky attitude of The Beach Boys are enough to put anyone in a good mood in the morning.
