Ryan Reynolds Jokes His Baby With Blake Lively Is “Allergic To Sleep”

The new dad opened up about his tiny tot’s sleep habits, claiming that she’s leaving him a little sleep deprived

Celebrities may have fancy cars, designer swag and nannies-a-plenty, but when it comes to parenthood they have to deal with the same issues as the rest of us.

Just look at North West’s recent tantrum on the front row at New York Fashion Week.

The number one complaint of new parents has to be sleep deprivation – and it’s a condition that new parents Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively are well acquainted with.

But their daughter doesn’t just dislike sleep; she’s allergic to it. Well, according to Ryan.

“Our baby in particular is, we think, allergic to sleep,” the actor said on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

“We joke that she thinks that she’s keeping us safe – she’s protecting us from the sleep monsters. She’s like, ‘Oh, I gotta keep them up or the sleep monsters will get them.”

But Ryan does have a few clever ways to help his daughter, who's name hasn't yet been revealed, get a little shuteye – as do we all.

He said he gives his daughter educational toys to play with, which he refers to as “Baby Einstein stuff” to help tire her out. “But for me, that’s like horse tranquiliser,” he joked. “I could go down on a lit stove. You could push me out of an airplane.”

Adorably, the new dad admitted that despite the eye bags and lack of sleep his baby girl has “got [him] wrapped around her finger” and admits that he’s “a slave to the rhythm.”

Ryan’s by no means the only celebrity parent to share his tips on getting his baby to sleep. Amanda Holden has previously admitted she managed to get both of her daughters, Lexi and Holly, to sleep through the night within eight weeks.

The Britain’s Got Talent judge credits a routine to her success and says she fed her daughters at strict times – 7pm, 11pm and 3am.

Amy Poehler says that since she became a parent, sleep is “just a concept” and she’s up at 5.30am no matter what.

Kourtney Kardashian, who’s previously admitted to being a fan of Attachment Parenting, confessed to nursing her oldest child Mason, now five, every two hours.

“He loved to sleep all day and party all night,” she said. “Everyone told me to nap when he napped, but I just couldn’t do it. It was actually a fun time, though!”

We hazard a guess that Kourt’s one of the only parents out there who thinks so…
