Princess Charlotte Arrives At Christening In Queen's Pram – As Prince George Dons Outfit Identical To One His Dad Wore As A Child

The royal family kept things traditional for the princess’ big day with a vintage pushchair and retro outfits

Yesterday, July 5, marked Princess Charlotte’s christening and as expected it was a glamorous affair.

Members of the royal family, including the Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Charles and Camilla turned out in their Sunday best at the church of St Mary Magdalene on the Sandringham Estate, but most excitingly (for us, at least) the event was the first occasion that both the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and both of their children were photographed out together.

And they were, naturally, the picture of perfection.

While Kate looked stunning just two months after giving birth in yet another cream Alexander McQueen outfit (she also wore the British designer to her wedding and to George’s christening in 2013), Wills looked dashing in a navy suit and red tie.

But it was the children’s outfits that seem to be the subject of much discussion.

Charlotte, as expected, was dressed in the same traditional christening gown that George was christened in - marking the seventh royal baby to wear the outfit.

The nine-week-old was spotted being carried into the church in her mother’s arms – and didn’t seem too happy with the proceedings. We can’t imagine being dressed in a frilly ensemble like that on a hot day is very pleasant.

Meanwhile George, melting hearts as he waved to the crowds and leant over his sister’s pram to see what she was up to, toddled around in an outfit almost identical to one that Prince William wore 30 years ago.

The blonde-haired toddler wore red shorts, a white embroidered shirt and black shoes – the same combo that William was photographed in when visiting Prince Harry for the first time in 1984.

It’s not the first time that George has been spotted in a retro get-up like this. At the Trooping of the Colour last month, he wore a blue outfit virtually identical to one his father wore at a similar age. We sense a pattern here…

But it was Charlotte’s pram that got tongues waggling. Kate wheeled her daughter to the church in vintage silver-wheeled Millson Prince pushchair – the same one that the Queen herself used to get her children from A to B in. The pram has been carefully refurbished since it was last used in the 1960s and, according to pram expert Alison Richardson, is the only pushchair “fit for a princess.”

“Millson were coach-built prams, the very top of the range,” Richardson told Mail Online. “There is no doubt it is the Rolls Royce of prams.

“They are beautiful prams, constructed in much the same way as the wooden horse-drawn coaches used by the Queen on ceremonial occasions. They are essentially a miniature version of that. It has obviously been in the family all of its life, which is the case with many wealthy families.”

The pram’s a far cry from the styles that Kate usually uses – she’s previously been snapped pushing George around in a classic £650 Silver Cross pram, a direct rival of Millson. It’s also thought that the Duchess owns a blue Bugaboo – a popular choice of many famous mums.

Princess Charlotte's godparents were announced at the christening. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have chose five godparents for their daughter, including William's cousin Laura Fellowes, Kate's cousin Adam Middleton and friends Thomas van Straubenzee, Sophie Carter and James Meade.

It's expected that the traditional christening portrait will be revealed later today. Famous photographer Mario Testino, who's known for his high-profile fashion shoots, will take the pics
