Princess Charlene And Prince Albert Of Monaco Present Baby Twins To The World

Little Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella are first and second in line to the Monegasque throne

Move over Prince George, there are new royal babies in town (although they're not quite as cute as you yet).

Princess Charlene and Prince Albert of Monaco presented their four-week-old twins Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella to thousands of adoring fans on the balcony of Palais Princier in Monte Carlo, Monaco yesterday (Jan 7).

The proud parents, who wed in 2011, looked happier than ever as they cradled their babies, who are first and second in line to the Monegasque throne.

Former Olympic swimmer Princess Charlene, 36, held little Princess Gabriella Thérèse Marie and was pictured delicately planting a kiss on her daughter’s forehead.

While her husband, 56-year-old Prince Albert, gazed into his wife’s eyes as he held his son Prince Jacques Honoré Rainier close to his chest.

The day was declared a public holiday in Monaco and the royal couple went on a walkabout to meet their supporters as their newborns took a nap.

New mum Princess Charlene donned a winter white coat for the presentation, which was her first public appearance since Monaco’s National Day in November.

She gave birth to the couple’s twins on December 10 at Monaco’s Princess Grace Hospital, by caesarean section.

Princess Gabriella, whose official title is Her Serene Highness The Countess of Carladès, was born two minutes before her younger brother, His Serene Highness The Hereditary Prince of Monaco, Marquis of Baux.

But despite being the younger out of the two, Prince Jacques will actually inherit the Monegasque throne after his father.

In Monaco, Salic law states that male heirs take the throne before their older sisters.

Prince Albert of Monaco also has two illegitimate children from previous relationships, Alexandre Coste and Jazmin Grace, but they aren’t entitled to the throne as they were born out of wedlock.

So the couple’s relationship has been under heavy scrutiny as if Prince Albert hadn’t married and produced an heir, Monaco would have been absorbed into France.

Prince Albert is the son of the late Hollywood star-turned princess, Grace of Monaco, and his father Prince Rainier died in 2005.
