Play date Prince: George Makes Friends At First Official Engagement In New Zealand

Proud parents Kate Middleton and Prince William encouraged the tot to play with other babies and HRH showed off a strong crawl

Most toddlers want to be the centre of attention when they start crawling, and it looks like Prince George is no exception.

The eight-month-old made friends quickly at a play date organised for the Royal Family's tour of New Zealand, as he, the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William spent time with other families whose babies were born on the same day - 22nd July. But he caused a few tears too...

George was one of the biggest babies at the event, described by one on-looker as 'quite a bruiser', and the tot seemed to have the confidence that befits his royal birth. He happily played with the toys on offer, not thinking twice about bowling up to other babies and pinching their play things too.

Kate Middleton wore a sophisticated white print Tory Burch dress with a fringe detail at the sleeves and hem. She happily chatted to other parents, though at one point it looked like her attention to one little girl caused a few tears - not something she's probably used to.

William also spoke to other parents, joking: "It's madness, there are babies everywhere!"

Prince George was dressed in what will probably be the next baby item to sell out, blue Rachel Riley dungaree shorts with a ship embroidered on the front, a white shirt and blue cloth shoes. And my, doesn't he look like his royal dad and grandpa?

The prince's crawling behaviour was also noted and as Kate was able to bounce him by the arms, it looks like he'll soon be in the 'cruising' phase (where babies toddle from one object to another before they're able to walk unaided) - growing up fast.

In an adorable interchange, Kate holds her son so that he can communicate with another baby, whose mum is chatting to the duchess, and he reaches out trying to make friends.

But it looks like it's all too much for the other tot, who bursts into tears. George continues to look on at the tears but becomes obviously restless and Kate puts him down to let him crawl about, unpeturbed about the effect he's having.
