Move over Kate Middleton – Prince George of Cambridge is the world’s new fashion icon
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are under tough fashion scrutiny as they embark on a three-week tour of Australia and New Zealand – but it looks like all eyes are on Prince George.
The kangaroo rucksack that Prince William was clutching for the prince at Wellington Airport sold out online as fans rushed to get a slice of the eight-month-old’s style.
But luckily for fans of the young royal, the rucksack is now available for pre-order and the site is expected to get more stock in shortly.
Last week, the prince’s personalised ‘George’ sweatshirt sold out online after website My1stYears.com shifted more than 1,200 units of the £25 jumper in four days when he was snapped wearing it in the family’s official portrait.
It looks like the Kate Middleton effect has taken something of a back seat and the Prince George effect is in full swing!
He’s also set to attend his first royal engagmenent at a parent and baby coffee group with his famous parents at Government House in Wellington tomorrow.
Kate Middleton, 32 and her husband Prince William, 31, will join ten other families at the session arrange by Plunket, an organization that supports learning development for children under five.
Senior Plunket nurse Tina Symes was tasked with choosing the ten families for the coffee group.
She sought to find a mix of genders and backgrounds to reflect the Wellington community (but only babies born in July – like Prince George of Cambridge).
"The parents are a spread of all the communities in New Zealand, including Maoris, Samoans, people of Chinese descent and gay couples,” said Tristine Clark, New Zealand president of Plunket.
"This is a very multi-cultural country and we wanted the Duke and Duchess to meet people from all backgrounds."
Ingrid Alve was shocked when she and husband David were invited along to the event with their eight-month-old daughter Eden.
“We were quite surprised - delighted obviously - but it was a bit surreal, a tiny corner of the country and they called us,” she told the New Zealand Herald newspaper.
Baby Eden will be bringing along her toy bunny rabbit – named George in honour of the little prince she’s set to meet.
"Hopefully George will play with it,” David told the paper.
But one parent admitted some of her friends were ‘jealous’ she’d been invited to meet the royal family.
"I've had a few jealous looks from other parents when they found out we were meeting the Duke and Duchess,” said Kate Bainbridge, who will be taking along her eight-month-old daughter Sophie.
"Even though we come from a very different background we have got a lot in common with the duke and duchess because we've been through the sleepless nights and we can talk to them about our experiences.
"We are all first-time parents, like them, so it should be quite easy to chat to them."
