Kate Middleton's baby shower set to be a royal family first

The Duchess of Cambridge will have a baby shower thrown by sister Pippa Middleton, according to reports

Pregnant Kate Middleton is expected to become the first British royal to have a baby shower.

The Duchess of Cambridge is said to want jump on the growing trend in the UK for a celebratory bash ahead of the royal baby's arrival on July 13.

According to reports, sister Pippa Middleton is organising the event, which has been given the royal seal approval by the Queen.

A source revealed to The Sun: "It isn't royal tradition, but Kate isn't a traditional royal.

"It will be a great day for everyone and Kate is doing this with the blessing of the Queen."

The date of Kate's baby shower is being kept a closely-guarded secret, but it's widely expected to take place over the next few weeks and held at the Middleton family home in Berkshire.

It looks set to be a family affair too, with reports that brother James, who runs a baking company, will provide a cake in the form of a dummy.

While Kate's baby shower will be a royal first, it's certainly not a new event for expectant mums.

The American tradition has become a popular event here too, with many modern mums-to-be being thrown showers by friends and family to celebrate their impending baby bundles.

Typically held in the latent stages of pregnancy or shortly after the baby's birth, mums are "showered" with gifts for their little ones – usually clothes, bottles and toys.

As well as being a chance to celebrate a new or impending arrival, baby showers were traditionally a chance for a new mother to hear words of wisdom from other mums.
