Pregnant Kate Middleton and Kim Kardashian putting Brits ‘under pressure to be yummy mummies’

The Duchess of Cambridge leads the pregnant celebs we’re most interested in – but 75 per cent of people say this makes their insecurities worse

Pregnant Kate Middleton and Kim Kardashian are making British women feel pressure to be ‘yummy mummies’, according to a new poll.

Nearly three quarters of new mums said that seeing pictures of glamorous celebrities makes them feel insecure about their looks.

The study of 1,000 women found that four out of five mums feel pressure to dress well during their pregnancy – with media coverage of celebrity mums making them feel even worse.

With celebs including the Duchess of Cambridge and the Keeping up with the Kardashians star due to give birth in July, 71 per cent of women said seeing pregnant celebs like this puts them under immense pressure to look good.

In fact, it seems expecting mums are more worried about the way they look than the reality of bringing up a child.

When asked what they were most apprehensive about, respondents said they felt worse about their changing body shape and stretch marks than the cost of raising a child, the impact on relationships and breast feeding.

And it seems the pregnant Duchess is the most inspiring star of all as she topped the list as the person we’re most interested in reading about.

More than half of the women polled said they would consider giving their new baby a ‘royal name’ like Henry or Elizabeth.

Kate and Wills’ choice of royal baby name is also influential as 29 per cent of people said it would impact what they’d name their own child.

“With high profile pregnancies like Kate Middleton’s making the headlines every day it isn’t surprising that mums-to-be feel as though they need to live up to these expectations,” said Nikos Anastasopoulos, spokesperson for Philips AVENT, which conducted the study.

“Every mum should feel like a royal mum and enjoy what is a very special time.”
