Pregnancy Is A Brilliant Health Boost And Can Help You Feel Young Again (Yes, Really!)

You may think pregnancy is exhausting and wears you down (hello, expanding belly, backache and morning sickness), but experts have discovered that it actually has a ‘rejuvenating effect’

The saying goes that pregnant women ‘glow’ – and scientists may’ve found out why.

According to new research, a woman blooming during pregnancy is an actual physical process. Pregnancy could help slow down ageing and help boost the regenerating process of a mum’s muscles and tissue. They do say children keep you young…

Using a high-tech MRI scanner, scientists from the Hadassah Medical School in Jerusalem looked at the effects on the body from liver transplants, on both pregnant and non-pregnant mice.

They discovered that in the older, pregnant mice, some 96 per cent of the liver had regenerated after just two days – compared to just 46 per cent in the non-pregnant mice.

The results also showed that expecting a baby protected the mice from tissue damage to the heart – a part of the human ageing process, said the scientists.

The effects weren’t too short lived, either. The research showed that they lasted for around two months after giving birth.

The experts explained that when a woman’s pregnant, she has to help both hers and her baby function healthily at the same time. They said that pregnancy appears to inject a woman with a ‘youth serum from the baby it’s carrying’, which subsequently slows the ageing process in the mother.

“As we age, it is more difficult for our tissue to regenerate itself,” said the report, published in the Fertility and Sterility journal.

“Because pregnancy is a unique biological model of a partially shared blood system, we have speculated that pregnancy would have a rejuvenating effect on the mother.”

Surprising Benefits Of Pregnancy
It can feel like people only want to talk about the downsides of pregnancy – the heartburn, the tiredness and the leg cramps, to name a few.

But, aside from the newly discovered benefits mentioned above, there are lots of positives in pregnancy.

For one, a lot of women find their sex life improves. May seem odd while you’ve got a tiny human inside you but during the second trimester there’s an increased blood flow to the pelvic area which can make a woman more sensitive and gives her a much higher chance of having a organism.

Women also tend to become a lot healthier. They stop drinking, smoking, etc and start doing a little more exercise and eating better.

But best of all? NO PERIOD PAINS. Enough said.
