Prada's 'Re-Edition' Collection: The Bowling Bag is BACK!

Prada's 'Re-Edition' Collection: The Bowling Bag is BACK!

If, like the rest of us, you somehow (too young, too skint, too slow off the mark), missed out on one of the greatest It bags of all time - The Prada Bowling Bag of Spring/Summer 2000, then NOW is your moment. Because, following on from the launch of the New York Metropolitan Museum's Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations exhibition this weekend, the luxury label has announced some major news likely to cause shopping pandemonium accross the globe. Prada is launching a special re-edition of their most iconic bags from between 1991-2005. The 'Re-edition' collection, featuring nine bags reproduced in their original versions, also includes a shoulder bag featuring Miuccia Prada's re-interpretation of floral prints by luxury fabric house Holliday and Brown from 2003; the white marbled leather Spazzalato with the ghostly barely-there "Savoy" logo; and the painterly rose print bag from 2005.

But it's likely to be the perforated bowling bag, re-issued in two-tone white and tan calfskin leather, that causes hysteria amongst fashionistas the world over. A cult hit when it was first introduced in 2000, the bag instantly sold out worldwide, forcing the stores to open up long waiting lists for frantic customers.

Truely devoted Pradaists know that the label's Spring/Summer 2000 collection is still regarded as one of the most influential in modern fashion. From the pleated skirts printed with surrealist lips, lipsticks and demure spots to the pussy-bow blouses, chic cashmere twinsets - and yes, those zippy bowling bags in a range of colours from lilac to burgundy and scarlet -  the ladylike look sent fashion editors into a frenzy. In one short season, Miuccia Prada turned fashion on its head and made classic, bougeoise elegance seem edgy and sexy once again.

The Re-edition collection of bags will be exclusively available in New York, from the following Prada boutiques: Prada Broadway 575 Broadway
Prada Fifth Avenue 724 Fifth Avenue Prada Madison Avenue 841 Madison Avenue

We predict a riot.
