Earn your ears and put your Bunny Dip to the test with the Playboy Bunny Bootcamp workout at GYMBOX - Review

Can a workout created to inspire women to be more like Playmates really take off? More importantly, will it make you sweat? We get our gym gear on and put it to the test...

Bunny Bootcamp, it doesn't exactly sound like the most hardcore of workouts, does it?

A few flouncy aerobic moves and several halfhearted Bunny Dips is what I had in mind when I arrived to try GYMBOX’s latest workout wearing yoga pants and a flimsy vest.

Little did I know, I’d be leaving with my mascara running down my sweaty face and almost certain I could hear my abs cursing at me.

The Playboy Bunny Bootcamp is GYMBOX’s latest dance fitness class, using a combination of cardio, combat, conditioning and floor work to whip you into shape in a matter of weeks.

Created in a bid to inspire women to own the "confidence, health and zest for life of the Playboy Bunnies", the class promises to leave women feeling energised, sexy, confident and "ready to take on the world".

And, frankly, it delivers.

From body popping with the Bunny Drops ('slut drop', to you and I) to more crunches and core work than your abs have seen in a lifetime - all while you’re making squeaking and groaning noises - it’s not for the faint-hearted.

There’s not a single break in the 45-minute class (don’t expect a rest between songs, it’s a never-ending track), even fitting in a water break in is tough to coordinate, so it’s hardly surprising that you can expect to burn up to 800 calories per class.

Make no mistake, this isn’t your average aerobics group (not that any GYMBOX class ever is), this is body conditioning, working with your body weight to increase resistance - and it pays off.

Sick of aerobic classes that do very little for women's bodies, choreographer and personal trainer, Michelle Peak, wanted to create a routine that empowered its participants while being a tough workout at the same time.

"It’s designed to offer women the chance to achieve the 'bunny beautiful' body, a healthy, strong, natural shape for the modern woman," she explained.

And after moving from Australia to London just for the class, she’s definitely dedicated to the cause.

"It was an amazing opportunity and I loved finding the right music and creating the moves. We had a lot of concept meetings and I ended up attending a night at the Playboy Club in London, really getting to know the Playboy moves."

And while it’s not every Playmate’s exact fitness regime, Michelle did make sure the girls at LA’s Playboy Mansion tried the class before it got the seal of approval too.

She told us: "The Playmates filmed the style video with us and showed me all the key moves that they have to perfect. They loved the workout, it was great to see their responses."

Keeping the bunny moves and initial ideas in place, Michelle finally put the whole routine together - making it her mission to make sure every bunny feels the burn the next day.

"It’s a high intensity fitness class, so you’ll definitely feel your arms, core and all over legs the next day after a Bunny Bootcamp workout," she quipped.

According to Michelle, it takes three classes to get the class perfected, but once your adrenaline is going and you’re swinging your hips with sass (yes, sass) on your way home, it’s easy to see why the class is already doing so well.
