Placenta, sperm and bird poo facials - British women admit they'll try anything to look younger

The top anti-ageing treatments women would try include bee venom and placenta masks and even bird poo facials

Women in the UK are up for trying pretty much anything when it comes to anti-ageing.

Placenta face masks, bird poo facials and urine therapy all made the top 10 list of treatments women would be happy to give a go for the promise of a youthful complexion.

In a survey by MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, 2,173 British women were asked what treatments they would try if money were no object. (Though as it is, women over 30 spend more than £250 each year on anti-ageing products and treatments.)

The most popular anti-ageing treatment women wanted to try was a placenta face mask, followed by bee venom and vampire facials, leeches and even a urine therapy.

Celebrities' increasing willingness to admit (and tweet pictures of) the weird and wonderful treatments that keep them looking young and glowing appears to have made us more adventurous when it comes to our own quest for youthful beauty.

Kim Kardashian tweeted a goulish picture of her face covered in her own blood after giving the Vampire Facial a go and placenta-based face creams are reportedly loved by Katie Holmes and Eva Longoria.

But it's not just Hollywood stars keen on unusual treatments to hold back the years. Our very own Victoria Beckham reportedly went potty for a face mask made from nightingale excrement, collected from the Japanese island of Kyushu.

The bird poo facial is offered in exclusive salons in the US - not sure how we'd feel about smothering our face in poop though.

More than half of the women polled were optimistic that anti-ageing products did make a difference to their skin's appearance. But a quarter said they were unsure that the treatments they currently used were not effective. A further quarter weren't sure either way.

Where would you draw the line when it comes to unusual treatments? Solid gold sounds alright to us but you can keep your urine therapy...
