Photographer Captures How Crazy And Chaotic Parenthood Really Is

In between the 3am wake up calls, endless nappy changes and development milestone pressures; parenthood can seem like one challenge after another.

Which is why photographer Danielle Guenther’s series of snapshots depicting the ‘crazy’ and ‘exhilarating’ nature of parenthood are so spot on.

Over exaggerated, of course, but completely recognisable to anyone who’s been there.

“The whole thing started by accident,” Guenther told ABC News. “It first happened at a regular session. She [mom] lied on the couch and said she was exhausted, so we agreed to make the photos fun and out of control.”

One captured scenario shows a mum attempting to juggle dog walking, pushing a pram and carrying her baby and numerous bags while crossing a busy street in New York City. We’re exhausted just writing that – let alone doing it.

“Sometimes it's hard running errands with your kids in the city,” Guenther said. “It's sort of refreshing to see things unfold in a chaotic way and to still say, 'It's OK.'”

But perhaps our favourite is a snapshot of a couple and their newborn baby and dog passed out in bed. Sounds pretty normal, but a few things in the pic are definitely mixed up.

The dad appears to have fallen asleep while reading a parenting book, while the baby is nuzzled beside him, precariously perched on top of the dog. Meanwhile the mum, in her delirious, sleep-deprived state, is bottle-feeding her pet pooch.
