Peaches Geldof: From Wild Child To Stay-At-Home Mum

The sudden and shocking news of Peaches Geldof’s death aged 25 is made even more tragic by the former tearaway’s recent transformation into a doting mother.

Peaches Geldof’s sudden death aged just 25 has left the British public and media reeling.

The daughter of Bob Geldof and Paula Yates was pronounced dead at her home in Kent yesterday afternoon in what police have called ‘a non-suspicious but an unexplained death’.

The tragic loss is compounded by the two young sons Peaches leaves behind her, Astala, 23 months, and Phaedra, 11 months.

Followers of the young celebrity’s career witnessed what looked like a total transformation over the last few years of the former wild child into a doting mother.

Born in 1989, the second child of Bob and Paula was always something of an eccentric.

When her mother died suddenly of an accidental heroin overdose in 2000, 11-year-old Peaches found it difficult to deal with her loss.

‘I remember the day my mother died, and it’s still hard to talk about it,’ she told Elle in November 2013.

‘I just blocked it out…I didn’t grieve. I didn’t cry at her funeral…I couldn't express anything because I was numb to it all.’

Peaches started her writing career aged just 15 with a column for Elle Girl UK as well as regular articles for The Telegraph and The Guardian.

By the time Peaches turned 18, her teenage rebellion years were in full swing.

She was a regular on the London party scene, frequently photographed drinking alongside stars like Alexa Chung and her younger sister Pixie.

In August 2008 at the age of 19, Peaches married American musician Max Drummey in the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas.

Despite relocating to New York, the pair split just six months later, officially divorcing in 2011.

Peaches dabbled in modelling in her early twenties, appearing in campaigns for Ultimo and Agent Provocateur.

She was dropped from her Ultimo contract in 2010 after controversial topless photos emerged of the then 21-year-old, surrounded by serious drug allegations.

By late 2010, Peaches dropped off the celebrity radar only to re-emerge in April 2011 with a new man on her arm, musician Thomas Cohen.

The pair were clearly inseparable from the off, as they appeared on numerous red carpets together over the summer, with Peaches sporting a noticeably thinner frame.

After getting engaged in December 2011, she announced her pregnancy the following January, claiming to be ‘utterly thrilled’ at the news.

Peaches took to motherhood immediately, transforming from a party girl into a stay-at-home mum who loved nothing more than tweeting about son Astala’s latest bowel movements and dietary preferences.

Thomas and Peaches married in September 2012 in the same church where her mother and father were married 26 years earlier and where her mother’s funeral was held.

Just over a year after Astala arrived, the proud parents welcomed their second son, Phaedra, and their young family was complete.

There’s little doubt that becoming a mum after losing her own so tragically had a profound effect on Peaches.

'His [Astala’s] birth was like a rebirth for me,’ she told Elle. ‘I honestly never thought anything in my life would ever be good.'

It’s no coincidence that her last column, written just a month ago, was not for Vice or NYLON but for Mother & Baby magazine.

'I wouldn’t say becoming a mum has defined who I am, but it’s definitely changed my life for the better,’ she wrote.

'It’s broken me, but in the best possible way! Because if you ever want proof of miracles, look at your baby’s face.'

Peaches was a strong advocate for attachment parenting, even taking on the infamous Katie Hopkins in a debate on the controversial subject on This Morning last November.

Her 260,000 Twitter followers were treated to daily updates on her two sons' development as they grew under the watchful eye of their doting mother.

Not a day went by that there wasn’t an adorable picture posted of the boys laughing and playing with their mum and assortment of pets.

The Geldof-Cohen family moved from London to the countryside in Kent last year, where Peaches was tragically pronounced dead yesterday aged just 25.
