Parents Have Been Naming Their Children 'Kale' - Yep, As In The Veg

If you thought the Game of Thrones inspired baby names were bad enough, it’s just got a whole lot worse

Spare a thought for the babies who have been named after vegetables.

Yup, parents in the US have upped the weird baby names ante by naming their children KALE – as in the leafy veg.

According to America’s Social Security Administration, 262 newborns were named Kale in the USA last year.

Of these young’uns, 257 of them were boys while just five of them were girls (thankfully).

But not onle single baby was named Kale in the Big Apple – it seems New Yorkers have some sense!

The figures also revealed other popular baby name choices have been inspired by veg as 1,086 girls were named Olive and 152 were named Pepper – perhaps influenced by Iron Man’s Pepper Pots?

But it seems Gwyneth Paltrow needn’t worry about parents stealing her baby name as only 27 girls were named Apple like her daughter – phew.

The vegetable baby name trend comes just months after it was revealed that the HBO show Game of Thrones has influenced naming choices too.

Medieval names including called Khaleesi and Arya saw a rise – with Khaleesi seeing a 450 per cent jump.

What’s next for baby name trends you ask? Well after the success of hit Disney film Frozen, we reckon Elsa, Anna and Rapunzel will see a rise…

Just kidding.
