Olympic Gymnast Ignores Advice To Abort Her Triplets: “I Won’t Sacrifice Two Of My Babies To Save The Other One”

Heavily pregnant sportswoman Jaime Halsey has revealed that she refused to abort any of her triplets, despite doctors telling her that her chances of them all surviving were extremely slim

Discovering she was pregnant with triplets during her routine 12-week scan, Team GB Olympic trampolinist Jaime Halsey had a horrible decision to make – terminate two of her babies or risk the lives of all three.

The doctors told Jaime and her rugby star husband Steve, that one of their three babies was much smaller than the other two - and advised the couple to terminate two of the foetuses because of the risk to both her health and the babies.'

The scan showed that she was experiencing a very high-risk pregnancy with a rare complication. She was carrying two identical twins and one ‘singleton’.

But despite the warnings, the couple, who are already parents to a two-year-old daughter, refused to abort any of the babies for the sake of the other.

“We had our first scan in Northampton at 12 weeks and were immediately referred to a specialist at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford,” Jaime, 35, told Mail Online.

“They told us one of the twins is 25 per cent smaller than the other and there’s a massive risk of further growth restrictions.

I also risk putting my body under three times the strain to keep them healthy, so they advised the termination.”

Jaime says that her husband was more logical and wanted to know about the risks but together the couple, who married in 2009, made the decision to “give the three babies the best opportunity [they] possibly could to come into the world.”

Jaime’s currently 26 weeks pregnant and is scheduled to deliver all three of her babies (thought to be girls) via a C-section. The couple are having regular checks to keep on eye on how the babies are progressing.

Despite only just entering her third trimester, Jaime says her bump’s already as big as it was when she was full-term with her other child, Flo.

“If this was my first pregnancy I would be terrified, but seeing how ace Flo is makes me confident we can do this. Now the panic has gone, we can be excited about our big family and noisy house.

“I am determined to make this happen. I could not live with myself if I sacrificed two of them – to save one.”
