Mum Reveals She Shares A Bed With Her Two Children – Instead Of Her Husband

Co-sleeping with young children is a highly debated topic – and a decision that one British mum says has saved her marriage

Would you share a bed with your children, rather than your partner? That’s the sleeping arrangement that 43-year-old Amanda Moss, from Liverpool, opts for.

Amanda shares her bed with two of her six children (Darling, six, and Ezme, two) leaving her husband, Simon, to sleep in a different room.

And rather than hindering her marriage, she claims it has strengthened it.

Amanda, who shared her story on ITV’s This Morning, said that she started co-sleeping with her younger children after she started her own business and needed to get plenty of rest so she could function well during the day.

Originally, Darling slept in the bed between the couple but after Ezme came along, it was easy to have her in the bed, too, and Simon be the one to move into another room.

“If I don’t get my sleep, I’m not the easiest person to live with,” says Amanda. “I’m trying to run a business and run the household and keep our marriage together.

“Actually, it’s kept the marriage together. So he went off to the spare room and we both got our sleep."

Amanda, who’s also a mum to Saxon, 14, Honey, 12, Floyd, 11, and Albany, nine, says bed sharing with two of her brood is “the right thing for [her] family.”

“It’s lovely, waking up with your children and feeding them in the night – it’s a beautiful special moment that doesn’t last for ever.”

Research revealed during the programme said that 70 per cent of mums allow their children to sleep next to them, and a third admit that they regularly do and will continue to do so until the child is over the age of six.

Co-sleeping isn’t normally recommended by experts, as the child has a higher risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). And some parents are really against it, including mum-of-one Ally Einsten who also appeared on the ITV programme to debate the topic.

Ally branded bed sharing as “disgusting” and “wrong” and worries that more couples will divorce because mums are choosing their children over their relationship.

“I have one child and initially I had her in the bed with me for a few weeks but we put her into the cot and it’s important that children develop routine," says Ally. "If you have them in the bed with you for a long period of time, they think it’s normal.

“They flourish on boundaries, it’s very important with relationships with your children and your partner that you set those boundaries.”

Experts suggest that the best place for a baby under the age of six months to sleep is in a cot or a Moses basket beside their parent’s bed, to help with bonding and nighttime feeds.
