Mum Gives Birth To Her Fifth Child In A Record TWO Minutes

We all set ourselves personal bests to beat – but not normally when it comes to labour

If all women had births as short and sweet as Mary Gorgens, then there would probably be a lot more children in the world.

The 35-year-old from Sydney, Australia, recently became a mum of five and has never been in labour for more than two hours.

In fact, Mary’s most recent labour lasted just two minutes. Buses take longer to arrive.

The speed of her newborn’s arrival meant that Mary didn’t have time to get to hospital and delivered her son, Brody, on her bedroom floor.

She told the Daily Mail Australia that she woke to go to the toilet in the early hours of January 30th after feeling a slight twinge and had to speedily “waddle” back to the bedroom when she realised her son’s head had started to come out.

With her husband Simon, 40, at her side, she gave birth to Brody then and there.

“I had no inkling, no feeling, no pain,” she says. “He was two days early, I really wasn’t expecting it that day.”

Mary is used to not making it to the hospital for her children’s births. She just about made it to the maternity ward for her first child’s arrival in 2008 – with 12 minutes to spare.

“One push and the head was out and one more and then his body came out,” she recalls. “We got to the hospital at 10.22am and Max was born at 10.34am.”

Her next two children were born in the car and her fifth child at home, all without pain relief because there was never enough time.

“My friends joke that I could sneeze and a baby would pop out,” says Mary.

With each birth, Mary’s labour time has got increasingly less. The couple’s eldest, Max, arrived in two hours and their oldest daughter Ava took 90 minutes to be born.  Their third child, Sienna, took just 50 minutes and their fourth daughter Mila arrived in 10 minutes. But at two minutes, Brody’s birth has been the quickest by far.

“I’m lucky because even though we weren’t in hospital, at the end of the day they went smoothly and they were all healthy,” says Mary. “It’s amazing what your body can do.”

But we won’t start speculating how quickly Mary could give birth to a sixth baby, as adding to the brood isn’t on the cards at the moment – and Mary doesn’t think she could deliver any faster.

Mind you, she probably didn’t think she would ever have a baby in two minutes, either!
