Featuring some regal inspiration and a nod to France, a traditionally Arabic name, Muhammad, topped the boy’s list – moving up a whopping 27 places from last year.

The Greek name Sophia was named the most popular girls name, knocking last year’s favourite, Olivia, off the top spot and into fourth place. And Emily stayed firmly put in the no. 2 spot for the second year running.

As well as lots of well-known names, the stats, gathered by BabyCentre, highlighted some more unusual choices – Wren, London, Apollo and Braxton (as in hicks?!) were listed in the top 100. Queen Bey and Jay Z’s daughter’s name, Blue, was also named in the top 100.

The Most Popular Boys Names

Other names that made the boys top 10 included Noah, the name of Michael Buble’s tot and also one of this year’s most epic action films, and Harry – which has remained a firm favourite for years.

While George didn’t make the top ten, the royal baby’s name did make 18th place – an indication of how much the British public loves the little fella. William was named the 12th favourite boys name.

The Most Popular Girls Names

The girl’s list shows that names ending in ‘a’ are still hot choices, with Olivia, Amelia and Isabella in the top 10. And, naturally, Frozen’s leading lady Elsa has inspired lots of parents to give their small person the same name this year as it lands at #75.

And Brit parents clearly are inspired by French names as Ava and Chloe are other top picks.
