Make-Up Tutorials Starring A Five-Year-Old Girl Divide Opinion

Five-year-old Danna Gomez is giving Zoella a run for her money… but is she too young to be a beauty vlogger?

There are some adults arguing that YouTube star Danna Gomez’s make-up tutorials are harmless fun for a five year old, but others are outraged at the viral videos.

The budding make-up artist, from Colombia, has found herself in the middle of a huge parenting debate over whether young children should be allowed to wear make-up – and offer advice on using it to others.

The tiny vlogger stars in a number of Spanish-speaking videos, covering everything from applying foundation and eye make-up, to contouring techniques to make noses appear slimmer. She even created a Valentine’s Day special for her millions of viewers.

But while some of the sessions are a little worrying and unquestionably ‘grown-up’, it’s clearly still just a five year old having fun.

“And then let’s get powder on the face and neck and I’m going to put some in my ears,” Danna says in one video.

Plenty of viewers have slammed the videos. One commenter, Miguel, wrote, “Why can’t we let our children be children, why do we have to rush them into being adults before they’re ready?”

You Know Who wrote that it was a “perfect example of a sexulalization of little innocent children.”

All children mess around making home videos – but not all parents upload them to YouTube for the world to see.

Or are these videos, as some viewers comment, just “harmless” fun and “cute” to watch? Chances are little Danna doesn’t know quite the impact she’s having – for her, it’s just a chance to play dress up.

It wasn’t like Danna’s family intended for her to become an Internet sensation. Danna’s aunt Denissa, who made the videos, thought they were so cute that she put them online – where they took off.

She explained in a Facebook post that the videos are just ‘play’ and she had permission from Danna’s mum before posting them, Mail Online reports.

“Danna loves showing off and enjoys being on the camera, and as long as she’s having fun and doing it on her own intiative then what is wrong with it?,” Denisse responded to negative comments.

Children have always played adult games like pretending to be doctors and nurses, or mummies and daddies, or even fireman or cowboys. So what is wrong with imitating an adult in playing around with make-up?”

Young children wearing make-up is always going to be a debatable topic, with some parents deeming it OK and others thinking it's inappropriate.

Kim Kardashian made headlines recently for admitting that her 21-month-old daughter knows how to apply make-up and she's not the only one.

Amanda Holden has previously said that she lets her now three-year-old daughter Hollie wear lipstick “so that she eats her breakfast.” Not an approach that most parents would opt for, but is it really that damaging?
