London Fashion Week A/W12 beauty and hair trends

Ensuring continuity and la crème de la crème in styling, Topshop Unique had some of the industry’s best hairdressers and make-up artists to hand.

Heading the Bumble & Bumble hair team was top hairdresser Sam McKnight. Performing his magic, as he whizzed from model to model completing the final touches, he managed to give us a few minutes of his time.

Summing up in two words, Sam smiled, “Fresh and healthy” was the inspiration behind the hair for Topshop Unique’s show. Long sleek shiny lengths, with a medium texture and slightly ruffled at the back created a natural ‘bed head’ look. Extensions were added to short and fine haired models to ensure uniformity. Continuing the natural look, head renowned make-up artist, Hannah Murray created as she called it, the “uber army” gorgeous look using Topshop’s own range of products.

As Hannah summed up “Creamy skin, with sixties rounded eyes topped with a slick of mascara on the outer lashes only, for a natural look. We’ve kept lips nude with the focus being on the eyes, applying Blackboard matte eye shadow to the crease of lids. Think Franco Hardy’s girls.

Skin has been finished with Body Skin Glow to create a light healthy glow. Cheeks have been left blusher free, for a uniform complexion.” And nails were also left looking natural. As nail-artist, Anatole Rainey confirmed “we used Topshop’s pink and white shades, lining the nails with white for a sheer finish.”

At Osman, nail artist, Emma Welsh used Leighton Denny varnishes. The key to Leighton Denny products is “the experience” as Emma tells us, which is created via mixing two nail varnishes.

Under Current was applied to the base and finished with a top coat of Diamond Rose – the result was a shimmering petrol colour which changed shades in various lights. This multi-tonal ‘experience’ is unique to Leighton Denny nail varnishes and can be achieved by applying any of their two colours together.

Make-up artist Lisa Eldridge for MAC used Coffee Walnut and Copper Bean creams on face and body, creating a ruddy, winter tan look. Red tones were applied for weathered cheeks and Brow Shine was used on eyebrows, as Lisa commented, strictly “no Scouse brows” allowed! Hair stylist, Shon created a slightly masculine look for a “cool and confident” woman. Prepping the hair, Shon used Bumble & Bumble Hair Thickening Spray all over.

Once the product had dried, Shon back combed the top section of the hair to create volume and finished off with Bumble & Bumble’s Classic Hairspray for a natural look.

At Corrie Nielson hair was swept back into a tight bun and check MAC make-up and rouged lips matched the tartan filled collection.

Also opting for an up-do, hair for Craig Lawrence was scraped back into three sections and tied tightly at the top.

The top section was then split into two thin rolls and was attached into a further two low ponytails. Bumble & Bumble hairspray was then applied to hold the style in place.   On the other side of the show schedule favouring a loose side ponytail, hair at Margaret Howell was parted at the side and the ends lightly curled for a tousled look. Make-up was soft and minimum.

But, Simone Rocha’s peachy cheeks contrasted a feathered hair front and tightly braided back chignon.
