Kourtney Kardashian Reveals She’s Eating Her Placenta Pills, Calls Them “Life Changing”

The oldest Kardashian sibling has been eating the placenta from her third child’s birth in the form of pills

Whether to eat the placenta or not is a hot topic. It’s quite literally the after birth, so lots of parents find the idea of dishing it up for dinner, well, a bit gross.

But you don’t have to eat it in all its raw glory. You can serve it up in a smoothie or have it ground down into pills, a la Kourtney Kardashian. Which will cost you around £150.

The reality star, who gave birth to her son Reign in December, has confessed that she’s been taking her placenta pills and recommended them to fans via her Instagram page.

“Yummy… PLACENTA pills! No joke… I will be sad when my placenta pills run out. They are life changing! #benefits #lookitup,” the mum of three posted on her Instagram page.

Are There Any Benefits To Eating The Placenta?
Well, Kourt, we have looked up the benefits and while lots of health claims have cropped up, there's little evidence to support any of them.

Some women think eating or drinking the placenta can give them a post-birth energy boost and help avoid developing postnatal depression.

And small amounts of oxytocin, a hormone that promotes lactation, found in the placenta suggests that women who eat it may be able to produce more milk - making breastfeeding easier.

But there are downsides to eating the placenta, too. Eating someone else’s placenta has risks of infections including Hepatitis B and C and HIV.

If you do decide to eat your placenta, you’ll need to let your midwife know you would like to take it with you when you leave the hospital. You should then freeze it immediately until you’re ready to cook it.

Other Celebrities Who’ve Eaten Their Placenta
Kourtney’s not the only celeb mum who’s eaten her placenta. Her baby sis, Kim, debated eating hers in an episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians before North’s birth – but it’s not known if she did sample the, erm, delicacy?

January Jones, of Mad Men fame, also opted to take placenta pills after the birth of her son Xander as did Clueless actress Alicia Silverstone and Big Bang Theory star Mayum Bialik.
