Katie Hopkins Reveals Daughter Has Autism – Just Months After Making Derogatory Comments About An Autistic Child

The controversial columnist has disclosed that her daughter has been diagnosed as on the autistic spectrum

Two months ago, Katie Hopkins caused uproar after she verbally attacked an autistic nine-year-old child, who appeared on a Channel 4 documentary ‘Born Naughty’.

Hopkins, who we all know often takes things to a whole new level, took to Twitter to compare the little girl to a farm animal, commented on her weight and said that she wasn’t able to complete an autism assessment because she was “too busy being a complete t**t.”

Hopkins’ tweets about the child even prompted the National Autistic Society to get involved, saying she had reached a “new low” – and invited her to meet members of the society so that she could better understand the struggle that people with autism face.

But now it’s clear that Hopkins was already aware of the condition’s ups and downs, as the former ‘The Apprentice’ contestant has admitted that her own daughter has been diagnosed as on the autistic spectrum.

During an interview with The Guardian, the mum of three was asked if she thought she might be autistic herself over her lack of empathy for immigrants seeking shelter in the UK. She replied, “One of my daughters is diagnosed as being on the spectrum. It’s an awesome thing, to live with a child who can memorise a times table in two minutes. They don’t get things emotionally.

“Like, when I fell off my bike, and I was lying on the floor, she was asking what was for tea. But they do connect brilliantly with facts and details. I consider it a kind of gift, because you can see the world differently.”

Hopkins’ big reveal comes just after celebrity mum, Melanie Sykes, spoke about her son’s autism at The Autism Show in London.

Sykes admitted that she was left feeling “sick and overwhelmed” when her then two-year-old son Valentino was diagnosed with autism eight years ago. “If I can’t accept he’s got autism I can’t help him emerge,” she said.
