Kate Middleton ditches high fashion for comfort to meet Scouts

Wrapped up against the cold, the pregnant Duchess of Cambridge guided a group of 24 Cub Scouts around the Lake District

Kate Middleton exchanged her trademark wrap dresses and stylish coats in favour of a hefty khaki jacket and a peaked hat as she joined a group of UK Scouts in Cumbria.

Ditching her heels for wellies (we're guessing Hunter), the Duchess of Cambridge, 31, wrapped up against the falling snow to join Scout leaders on an event in the Lake District.

Kate, who's a former Brownie, has been volunteering with her local Cub Scout group in Anglesey, where she lives with husband Prince William.

She joined other volunteers in the Lakes to guide a group of 24 lucky Scouts in an activity day to hone their survival skills, including cooking outside and lighting fires.

Kate 'paired' her outfit with a blue, white and red Scouting scarf and wore a peaked Really Wild tweed cap to keep the snow off her tumbling locks.

She also kept cosy with several layers peaking out from beneath her jacket, warm black trousers and fingerless gloves.

The pregnant Duchess helped cook dough twists over an open fire and laughed with the other volunteers, looking quite at home in the rustic setting.

It's her third public appearance this week, and has certainly had the most relaxed dress code. Earlier this week the Duchess wore a black Topshop dress and white Goat coat to visit charity Child Bereavement UK.

And later in the week she joined the Queen and Prince Phillip on an official visit to Baker Street station, to mark 150 years of the Tube. To this event she was smartly dressed in a Marlene Birger coat and black beret.

Last week Kate had a rare fashion mishap as her heel got stuck in a grate while attending a parade for St Patrick's Day.
