Kate Middleton shows off darker hair colour with no trace of grey at Sportsaid Ball

The Duchess of Cambridge's famously glossy locks were back to their finest as she attended the event for the charity she is a patron of

After daring to show off a few specks of grey at a British Legion event earlier this month, predictably sending the world's media bananas, Kate Middleton's hair has undergone a subtle overhaul.

The Duchess of Cambridge showed off new, subtly darker coloured locks at a charity ball for Sportsaid, of which she is a patron.

Catherine, 31, left her four-month-old son Prince George at home with dad Prince William and stepped out on her own for the event. She looked demure in a black Temperley dress, black super-high heels and carried a contrasting red clutch.

Her choice of outfit showed a modern take on lace - one of the duchess's favourite designs. The dress was laser cut with a nude underlay and in line with Kate's penchant for the high street, is available off the rack. She accessories with designer, however, the clutch by Alexander McQueen and suede shoes by Jimmy Choo.

But all eyes were on Kate's shining barnet. After those camera flashes picked out a few silvery strands a few weeks ago, the new mum's hairdresser has responded by refreshing her look with a slightly different shade for winter. The rich, dark chocolate colour looked dazzling on the duchess and the trimmed length has given her locks a healthy-looking boost.

The event gave Kate the chance to meet some of the up and coming sporting talents at the charity and she awarded the coveted One-to-Watch Award for the most impressive up-and-coming young athlete to 16-year-old Amber Hill from Bracknell.

The teenager said: "She congratulated me on how amazingly I have done. It's so nice that she recognises young up-and-coming athletes."
