The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have two days left of royal duty before they can begin summer hols and then move into Sandringham

They have had a rather busy few weeks.

So it’s no wonder Kate Middleton and Prince William just want to move into their family home with son Prince George.

But the couple's house on the Queen's Sandringham estate in Norfolk is not quite ready yet - so they're spending the summer on holiday instead.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, both 32, have skipped royal tradition by visiting Scotland instead of their usual summer jaunt to Mustique.

The royal couple – whose son George turned one last month – are set to take off the month of August for a countryside retreat in the UK, according to Vanity Fair.

Kate, Wills and George will start with a visit to Charles and Camilla’s Highland home in Birkhall, a hunting lodge in the grounds of Balmoral.

They’ll also take the one-year-old to visit his grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, and husband Prince Philip at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

After visiting the grandparents, the family will return south to spend the remainder of their summer holidays moving into their home in Norfolk.

Anmer Hall, the Cambridge family home set in the grounds of Sandringham Estate, is still currently undergoing renovations (as it has been for the past year).

The 10-bedroom house has its own tennis court and swimming pool – ideal for Prince George who Kate revealed is becoming quite the water baby.

Catherine – whose husband William is second in line to the throne – is said to be ‘very hands on’ with the redecoration, say royal sources.

“She and William cannot wait to move in and they want to make sure the last stages of the refurb go to plan,” a source told Vanity Fair.

It will be their first family holiday since visiting Mustique with a six-month-old Prince George in February 2014.

Kate and Wills also took a ‘babymoon’ to Mustique when the Duchess was three months pregnant with their son.

They have of course been abroad since he was born – including the family’s three-week tour of Australia and New Zealand in April this year.

Kate, William and George went on a royal tour Down Under on behalf of the Queen – with William even admitting it’s where his son took his first steps.

The family still has a few days left of royal duty before they can fly out to Scotland to visit their relatives and start their summer holiday.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, along with Prince Harry, will visit Belgium on Monday (4 Aug) to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War.

The trio will then visit the Tower of London's 'Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red' poppy installation in the exhibition’s moat on Tuesday (Aug 5).
