Jennifer Lawrence: I would NEVER wear Effie’s costumes, they’re physically harmful!

J-Law, who plays Katniss Everdeen in the Hunger Games: Catching Fire, reveals she’s not going anywhere near Elizabeth Banks’ wardrobe

She’s the epitome of high-fashion with campaigns for Dior and a Vogue cover under her belt.

But The Hunger Games: Catching Fire actress Jennifer Lawrence has revealed she won’t go anywhere near character Effie’s extravagant wardrobe.

Speaking at a press conference to promote the highly anticipated second movie in the trilogy, J-Law told us the outfits Elizabeth Banks had to wear were actually dangerous.

“No, I would never do that to myself. Her costumes are actually dangerous, like physically harmful. She once wore six-inch high heels that didn’t have a heel,” said the 23-year-old actress, who plays Katniss Everdeen in the film adaption of the Suzanne Collins book.

Elizabeth Banks

– who reprises her role as eccentric Effie Trinket for this movie – admitted she had to be carried around in her clothes.

“Two dudes had to carry me everywhere. I still manage to complain more. I’m like ‘don’t come near me, don’t knock me over!’” she joked.

And asked whether she reckons her co-stars try on her outlandish costumes after work, the 39-year-old said she wouldn’t be surprised if people did.

“I don’t know what people do after hours, I don’t want to guess but probably yes [people do try them on],” she said.

Costume Designer Trish Summerville – who won a Costume Designers Guild Award for her work in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - was brought on board to take charge of the fashion in the second movie.

In The Hunger Games sequel, Katniss joins Peeta Mellark in a Victory Parade around the various districts as well as in the Capitol.

This was an opportunity for the outfits to look really glamorous as it was supposed to highlight the difference from their humble beginnings in District 12.

“We really had an opportunity with this movie because we see so much of the Capitol, we go on this Victory Tour and everybody’s famous now, we wanted the excess to be really prevalent,” said Elizabeth Banks.

Effie’s costumes in particular are particularly boundary-pushing – one 3D butterfly dress springs to mind, as does her outfit at President Snow’s party.

“Trish Summerville, the Costume Designer, pulled amazing stuff from different designers all over the world and I happened to wear a lot of [British designer] Alexander McQueen,” said Elizabeth.

But despite Effie’s costumes having more of a presence in this movie, actress Elizabeth Banks still reckons Katniss’ wedding dress was the best part of the film.

“I happened to think Katniss’ wedding dress was the most fabulous thing in the movie,” she said.
