Jennifer Garner Delivers Hilarious And Damning Speech About Hollywood's Double Standards And 'THAT Blurred Lines Girl'

Listen up reporters... oh wait, that's us!

While the world (including us) was all too busy doing a double-take over Renee Zellweger's miraculous changing appearance, we all but missed the fact that Jennifer Garner gave an astute, show-stealing speech at the Elle's Women In Hollywood event.

Jennifer, 42, an honouree at the ceremony, began her speech by drawing attention to the persistent inequality in the entertainment industry: "I mean, the Men in Hollywood event is everyday. It's called Hollywood."

The actress then went on to protest the difference in interview techniques that she and her husband Ben Affleck experience.

"My husband and I do kind of the same job — a little bit," she said grinning. "Not long ago we both had one of those magical days which we call a junket, where we both attended these lovely events where people come in every four minutes and they ask the same questions."

She then went on to describe a conversation with Ben, where they compared notes about their recent junkets.

The two of them hit on a rather disappointing trend.

"I told him every single person who interviewed me — and I mean every single one… asked me: 'How do you balance work and family?'" she explained.

Whereas Ben revealed to Jennifer that he hasn't once been asked about his role as a family man, despite the fact that her threee children - Violet, Seraphina and Samuel - belong to her husband too.

"As for work-life balance," she went on, "[Ben] said that no one asked him about it that day. As a matter-of-fact, no one had ever asked him about it. Not once."

There has been some speculation about the reason for this.

Some have suggested that Jennifer often chooses roles in romantic comdies and family-oriented films, prompting comparisons with her personal life.

However, taking a look at the actress' history, this simply isn't a valid argument - she's twice taken on the role of Elektra in Marvel's various kick-ass superhero movies and her most recent role of note was that of a doctor in Dallas Buyer's Club, a controversial film about AIDs.

What's more, while Ben Affleck might have some serious acting credits to his name, such as roles in The Town, The Company Men, plus directing credits for Argo, it's not like he's never taken a cheesy rom-com role.

Ahem - Jersey Girl, Forces of Nature...and do we even have to mention Gigli?

Even worse, it seems that the questions put to Ben about his most recent Gone Girl role - in which he plays a husband suspected of his wife's murder - are even more sexist and silly than those put to Jennifer.

"[Ben] said the only thing anyone asked him repeatedly was about the tits on the 'Blurred Lines' girl!" she declared.

It seems disappointing both that interviewers would forego questions about the role in favour of crass enquiries about another actresses boobs, but also that they don't even reference Emily Ratajkowski by name.

Jennifer did jokingly put one rumour to rest though. Mocking people's insistence on talking about Emily's body, she said: "They are real and they are fabulous and everyone should take a look and enjoy."
