Inspiring Eight-Year-Old Boy Grows Hair To Donate To Charity - Despite Being Called A Girl By Bullies
The most selfless act we've come across in a long while
Christian McPhilamy is only eight years old, and already putting most of us to shame.
The schoolboy from Melbourne, Florida, faced taunts and bullies while spending two years growing his hair out, simply so he could cut it all off and donate it to a foundation called Children With Hair Loss.
Christian made the decision to do his bit for charity after seeing an advert for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
He then proceeded to grow his golden locks out, despite children his own age criticising him and offering to pay for him to get it cut. By the time he had reached his goal hair length, he had four 10-inch ponytails to donate to the hospital
His mum, Deeanna Thomas, shared his incredible story with the world via her Facebook page.
“He has endured an awful lot of criticism, and yes even bullying, throughout this time,” Deeanna wrote. “From his peers calling him a girl to even coaches and family friends telling him he should cut it or offering him money to.”
After stumbling across the advert for St. Judes, Deanna explained to her son that cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy sometimes accept hair donations – something that Christian then expressed an interest in.
“I was blown away," Deeanna told Today. “Usually when Christian sets his mind to something, he pretty much goes with it. He doesn't let anything falter his goals. I was pretty confident that he was actually going to follow through with it.”
What an inspiring story.
