Gwyneth Paltrow Talks Co-Parenting Challenges: “It’s Been Hard”

The actress and her former husband, Chris Martin, ‘consciously uncoupled’ last year

Fans of actress Gwyneth Paltrow and Coldplay star Chris Martin were devastated when the couple announced their were ‘consciously uncoupling’ in March 2014.

The notoriously private couple, who wed in 2004, chose to announce their split on Gwyneth’s lifestyle website Goop and seemed determined to keep things amicable, for the sake of their children – Apple, 11, and Moses, nine.

And they seem to have managed to stay civil, and, by all appearances, friends.

The couple have been spotted happily chatting away while out together in the last year and Gwyneth even took to social media to share a sweet snapshot of Chris and Apple on Father’s Day, professing what a great dad he is.

But despite the fact that they get along, the 42-year-old actress says that co-parenting is “hard.”

Speaking at a #BlogHer15 event in New York at the weekend, Gwyneth said, “It’s been hard and we’ve gone through really difficult times with it but we’ve always said these children are our priority.

“I’m very, very lucky that I have a partner who’s willing to do it with me in a really collaborative way. I’m really for Chris and he’s really for me and our children are our priority.

"What that really means is: Even if you hate me and never want to see me again, we are going to brunch. It's definitely imperfect, [but we] are really great friends [and] he's a great dad."

The actress, who’s now thought to be dating Glee co-creator Brad Falchuk, revealed how she explained her divorce to her children, recalling that she urged them to ignore anything they heard in the media and instead to “know what’s real” and how much their parents love them.

Growing up with a movie star and a rock star for parents, the kids “understand the difference between the inside and outside world,” said the ‘Shakespeare in Love’ star.

Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck have also hit headlines recently, after revealing their ambitious co-parenting strategy, following their split. The couple, who were together for 10 years, reportedly plan to continue living together in the same property for the sake of their three young children – Violet, nine, Seraphine, six and Samuel, three.
