Goth was a massive trend on the catwalks for Autumn/Winter 2012. Seen on the runway at Nina Ricci, Gucci, Versus and Givenchy to name just a few, a new era of strong sexy silhouettes in delicate black lace, luxe leather tailoring and sexy fitted dresses is upon us for winter next year. But we would never have guessed that the A-List would have picked up on such a wintery trend in the height of spring. Actresses and fashionistas alike seen on the red carpet recently (especially at the Met Ball) have swapped their glossy bronzed makeup and opted for what would can only be described as a full winter glamour look.
Both Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron attended the premiere of their new film ‘Snow White And The Hunstman’ in London on Monday in similar gothic gowns - Kristen wore an Autumn/Winter 2012 black lace Marchesa dress whilst Charlize opted for a sheer Christian Dior Spring 2012 Couture dress.
This came only a week after the Met Ball in New York where we saw style-setters from Rihanna to Rooney Mara going monochrome and working dark eyeliner, fair powdered complexions and blood red lips. Even the usually-angelic Kate Bosworth moved over to the dark side in a black and red feather dress by Prada.
This has got us thinking about how to work the goth trend for summer, and whilst it's definitely a way to make an entrance on spring’s party scene, it’s probably best to avoid such a striking look come wedding season! After all, wearing black to your friend's nuptials will do nothing but earn you unwanted glares. And beware – avoid temptations to dye your hair or wear any religious inspired jewellery with this look – otherwise you will quickly move into Wicked Witch of the West territory (please refer to Gabriella from 'Made in Chelsea'). You have been warned.
