Heston’s Fat Duck retains top slot in Good Food Guide 2013

L’Enclume in Cumbria also received a perfect 10 cooking rating, ranking close behind Blumenthal’s famous restaurant

Experts at the Good Food Guide say we're living in a 'culinary golden age'Start saving up – The Good Food Guide has revealed where we should be eating in 2013, and with a galaxy of Michelin stars, the tastiest menus won’t be coming cheap.

There's no surprise at number one, with Heston Blumenthal’s The Fat Duck topping the list for another year running. But for the first time, there’s a rival restaurant coming close to the Berkshire eatery’s pedestal. L’Eclume in Cumbria has been awarded the same score for cooking as the popular TV chef’s home of eccentric gastronomy. Headed by Chef Simon Rogan, L’Eclume also came away from the judging with a prestigious 10 cooking rating.

Elizabeth Carter, Consultant Editor of The Good Food Guide said: “L’Enclume is mind-blowing. It’s a world-class destination in harmony with its local community, serving food that is hard-wired to the Cumbrian soil. Rogan creates miracles from nature; he cooks what the land can provide – nothing more, nothing less. Eating at L’Enclume is a unique, almost one-to-one experience. It is quite simply astonishing.”

Also in the top 10 were Restaurant Sat Bains, Nottinghamshire (3), Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, London (4) and Restaurant Nathan Outlaw, Cornwall (5). Great British Menu Favourite Jason Atherton saw his restaurant Pollen Street Social, London, raised to number six and Raymond Blanc’s classic Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons reached number seven. The last three to make the coveted top 10 were all London restaurants – Hibiscus (8), The Square (9) and The Ledbury (10).
