Cutting back on your booze intake in the run up to Christmas could save you more than just a few pennies.
We'd all like to lose a bit of weight and save some cash, but most of us don't realise how much we could save - or lose - by cutting back on the amount we drink.
Having two glasses of wine three nights a week clocks in at over 750 calories a week - that's over a third of a woman's daily calorie amount – and it could cost you around £18.
Two pints three times a week costs around £15 pounds which, if saved between now and Christmas, would cover the cost of a full Christmas dinner for up to 10 people - around £140.
And it's not just your wallet that might be in danger. Regularly drinking more than one large glasses of wine or a pint of strong beer every night, or most nights, will increase the chances of doing serious harm.
It's that extra glass or two in the evening, most evenings, that can do the damage - whether drinking at home or out.
The Department of Health, Change4Life healthy living initiative have launched an online tool to help you keep track of how much alcohol you're drinking, which also calculates how much you are spending and how many calories you are putting in your body.
