Fun, Family-Friendly And (Almost) Free Half Term Games All Parents Need To Try

Rather than splashing out on over-priced family days out, save your pennies for that summer holiday and have some half-term fun at home with your kids instead

Ever feel like you’ve exhausted all of your creativity and have NO MORE energy left to create exciting games for your kids to play? Don’t panic.

We’ve come up with a brilliantly fun list of activities that your whole family will be able to join in with – and that won’t cost you an arm and a leg.

Play Indoor Volleyball
Don’t worry – nothing will get broken as instead of a ball you should challenge your children to a game of indoor volleyball using a balloon.

Turn The Stairs Into A Slide
We WISH our parents had made this cardboard stair slide for us to play on as children. OK, so it’s not the safest game but as look as you keep a watchful eye out and make sure your little one wears a helmet there’s no reason why you can’t give it a go.

Make An Obstacle Course
All you’ll need for this is a whole of bunch of string and blue tack. And some treat of some kind for the winner.

Set Up A Home Salon
If your child loves playing with your hair (and you’re feeling brave), let her go crazy with it for half an hour. Just don’t give her any scissors…

Build A Lego Marble Run
This is bound to keep your tot busy for a good half hour – leaving you to actually enjoy a HOT cup of tea.

Throw A Disco
Great for all ages (yep, even some dad dancing can put in an appearance at this activity) a disco is the perfect end to the half term week. Build up the ante all week by getting your kids involved with making decorations and some invitations for a few friends and then push the sofas back against the wall and let the good times roll.

Play Ring Toss
You’ll only need a few empty cereal boxes, a kitchen towel cardboard tube and some felt tip pins to make this game with your child. And once it’s ready, it’s a great way to boost your tot’s gross motor skills.

Have A Baking Competition
Channel the Great British Bake Off and get your chef’s hats on to rustle up a treat a day throughout half term. Each day you, or a friend or relative, can rate the baked goods on a scale of one to 10 and see which was the best come the end of the week.

Build A Mega Kerplunk Set
This is a game that all ages can enjoy. Now where can we buy those balls…?

Make A Shape Hopscotch
Instead of drawing all over your patio in chalk, create this twist on the classic hopscotch game with some coloured card. Just make sure you Bluetack the shapes to the floor so your little one doesn’t slip all over the place.
