Exercise proven to boost your brain power


The benefits of regular exercise for your body are well known, but new research says pumping iron can keep improve your smarts too.

The research from the University of Otago, New Zealand, has shown that fitter adults scored better on mental tests.

Those who regularly hit the gym achieved better results when it came to task switching, selective attention and working memory.

Memory tests were particularly better in older generations, where their cognitive function and performing in mental tasks such as driving were massively improved.

Authors Hayley Guiney and Liana Machado explained, 'the indications reported thus far - that regular exercise can benefit brains even when they are in their prime developmentally - warrant more rigorous investigation, particularly in the context of society becoming increasingly sedentary.'
